Many decades ago I performed as the hired vocalist at weddings.  Since I don't drink alcohol, I doubt anyone will ever hear me sing at karaoke night.  Only singing now is when I am the only one at home.

Most people with little or no musical training g sorely underestimate the quality of their voices.

If you enjoyed the experience and are receiving compliments today, you may have some untapped talent, and if that is the case, you may wish to capitalize on it.

Singing is a FABULOUS aerobic sport, and can provide enjoyment well into one's older years.

Don't be self conscious about the Chardonnay- it did you a FAVOR!

If you liked it, GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!

Hi @dulwich

I love this story!  I can't keep on tune either, I've been told that all my life.

What kind of Welsh women are we?!

I love to sing but it would take more than Chardonnay to get me up for karaoke, but I do love the idea of going to an authentic saloon Woman Very Happy

The people who have told you that are very likely to have been wrong.

Pitch matching is a teachable skill, and the physiological inability to match pitch (keep on a tune) is so rare that I've encountered it less than ten times through my whole professional career.

If you want to increase your pitch matching skill, look for a sympathetic, well trained voice specialist and give it a go!

I may be drummed off the Q board after thus - read on.  After a very stressful week last night went to dinner with some girlfriends met up with DH in our local "saloon" afterwards.  Yes it is a saloon we live down road from Tombstone way out west.

Anyway turns out it is kareoke night.  Had my Chardonnay then another one then decided kareoke here I come.  Never ever done this before - got an off key voice - danced sang to "I've got friends in low places" (appropriate eh?) having a taste for it - and the Chardonnay - followed up with selection of Abba then got DH up for duet - left there at midnight still singing!

Walking the dogs this a.m. People I met all calling out - great night, you did good etc. etc.

Ladies be warned see what stress can do to you

Lol! Great post! You go girl! @dulwich!
