Re: Has your attitude about shopping changed since 2019?

I was doing grocery pickup before covid as both my husband and I had mobility issues.  He is gone now but I much prefer  the convenience of them delivering to my car.  I find I spend less money that way as well as there are no impulse purchases.

I shopped almost totally online for years before covid.  I have no desire to go into stores unless I absolutely have too. At my age, I don't need "STUFF".  So  has covid changed my shopping.  No It just reinforced my reasons for doing it.

I don't go to the regular supermarket that much anymore.  Instead I buy my cleaning products and paper goods from Costco (sometimes on Amazon).

I buy my produce, meats, cheese and other odds & ends from the local family run organic grocery or local farm market.

I still like to get out....can't stand staying at home everyday.

@Sooner   Good question!  Yes.  I have gone from someone who would NEVER consider grocery shopping online to someone that does it often. I rarely go to any BM store now. Shop 95% of the time online.  I do not want to drive and pay gas... be in a store getting contaminated by those who will not mask up...so easy to shop online. Love it. Especially LOVE Amazon and Amazon Fresh. I spend a lot with amazon and I am never disappointed.

Re: Has your attitude about shopping changed since 2019?

I always enjoy browsing the grocery store and never stopped going.

Now, I enjoy it even more as it's my "free" time from being a caregiver.  I always seem to see someone I know so it's social for me too🙂

As for other stores I've evaluated all the excess "stuff" I have and I don't want/need a thing.  No need to browse those stores because something always comes home that I didn't need in the first place🤦‍♀️

Re: Has your attitude about shopping changed since 2019?

Well, shopping habits started changing 8 or 9 years ago as online shopping exploded.  It began with ordering groceries online because I was working 55 hours a week and it saves time.  Also it was healthier for me because I have no self control in a grocery store, I gravitate to junk food and the bakery section.  Around that time I started sending laundry out to be done because I could arrange pick up,  delivery and instructions through the app.  And then 6 or 7 years ago, they sent us home to work and I loved that but my job hD been in downtown Boston where we all shopped at lunch time and on our way home from work.  That ended when I was working in my home office and I began shopping online.  I quickly realized I wasn't limited to what was hanging on racks on stores, the whole retail world was available to me.  If I wanted something, I could find it online.  Gradually I stopped schlepping around malls with shopping bags.  I buy almost everything online now.  When I was working, it gave me time for myself and my family.  I'm retired now but while I have time, I won't go back to old school brick and mortar shopping.

Re: Has your attitude about shopping changed since 2019?

I cant imagine never going into stores ever again.  Just browsing is nice, I certainly dont buy everytime I am out.  The thought of staying in the house never going out makes me sick to even think about.  I never stopped working in my office even during the peak of Covid because my job was a critical function.  I worry very much about people staying home will lose natural immunity, and might be in a world of trouble if they do ever venture out.

Definitely changed. I get in and I get out. Haven't been to the mall in years. I send for everything.

Re: Has your attitude about shopping changed since 2019?

I used to love to go to Malls. So many stores closed that it isn't any interest to me any more. Nearest Mall was an hour away. I grew up with  Mother that every Saturday we went to Malls.  Scouring for sales. Shopping was her hobby. Penny's, Sears, Bath and Body , Herbergers all gone. Retired  in 2018 so  just don't need  as much.

I grocery shop at Wal-Mart and another  grocery chain for meats and specials.  I am thankful I can get out to  personally shop but may not be able to someday. Our Walgreens went downhill and on line only Ads and removed the reward program. A pharmacist stealing drugs  a few years ago and a check out person  last month refusing to ring up BC while making a public issue about it in front of others that made National News.

Just about everything else I order on line. Amazon is easy and fast shipping. Aldis is an hour away and seemed so bare for a  long time I lost interest going there as well. Once a month is now twice a year with  one  trip a couple if weeks before Christmas for German sweets.

Re: Has your attitude about shopping changed since 2019?

I do both online and in person shopping. I like going out to the grocery store and to the mall (although my local mall is so sad looking, so many stores closed), and other retail places. I have a plan of what stores to get in, and try not to linger, more of a get in, get out. But when I'm not able to get out, I do online which is extremely convienient.

Last week I took an overnight trip to a casino and there's a big mall next door. The mall is extremely busy and has tons of stores, including TJ Maxx, Burlington, Old Navy, J Crew, and a Saks Outlet. I enjoyed shopping there and plan to go again when the weather is cooler.

Re: Has your attitude about shopping changed since 2019?

I've always hated grocery shopping, so the option of ordering online and picking up curbside has made me very happy! When I was a caregiver I viewed the trips to the grocery store as my temporary respite, but I still hated the experience.

I never really enjoyed any type of in-store shopping. Schlepping around, wandering aisles, finding parking, carrying bags of purchases just wasn't my thing. If I knew what I wanted I just went in and got it, exiting quickly.

I also order from the Big A and a few other places, and only set foot in stores like Home Depot or Best Buy if necessary. Oh sure, a trip to an outdoor market or orchard is nice for specialty treats and I enjoy wandering the aisles at the outdoor plant nursery. But overall, my shopping habits have become more focused, steamlined, and purposeful to maximize use of my time and budget. If I avoid all the germy and weird people that's an extra bonus.
