Has tipping gotten out of hand.

I know this has been discussed before but I am truly so tired of it. When did the practice of placing cans on the counter start. Why should I tip for you doing a job that you are paid to do.

We go to Moe's quite a bit and they have a gas can sitting by the register with a sign on it saying Help pay for gas for us to get to work. Then also if you pay by credit card there is a tip line on the receipt.

I only tip my hairdresser, the newspaper person and the poor servers that work for next to nothing.

Just venting. Sometimes though I am really tempted to say something. If I had to work at a place like that that puts cans out for tips I would probably take it and put it under the counter. I never have worked at a place that asks for tips for you doing your job. Maybe they should start tipping me for using my gas to go into their business.
