Good to know!

So when I push the side button to silence the ringer/send to voicemail...is that ok? I mean, will that discourage them or does it verify that there is a live person here?

Maybe it also a Texas thing right now @LTT1 because I have been getting a ton of them the last couple of days.  I just hit the end button instead of side button and usually get no voice mail.  I hate the ones that use my area code and my prefix for their sales tactics.

@LTT1.  I would guess voicemail would indicate the phone has been answered.

You can verify that your number is on the Registry by visiting donotcall.gov or calling 1-888-382-1222.

Supposedly, the DNC registry doesnt expire for either cell phones or landlines. Legislation was passed in 2007 to eliminate the need to re-register landlines every 5 years.

@Laura14

I got tired of all these medical insurance calls too....funny thing is once I opted out of marketing from Aarp, and their affiliated companies which includes United Health Care, and also opted out of Amerigroup Insurance known for junk mail and telemarketing calls, and Physicians Mutual....its amazing how few robo or telemarketing calls I get now....Oh I still get those occasional fake IRS calls on my answering machine threatening to send a sheriff after me, or a rare fake Microsoft Calls message that my license key is expiring.......

Now I did get bombarded with political calls in November during mid terms, and end of year charity pleas which arent covered by DNC Registry......but those are now quiet too....SILENCE IS GOLDEN!!!  And I always did and still do use my answering machine to screen all my calls....

On my cell, I dont answer unless I know the number....theres a couple of numbers that keep coming up even though I used my call blocker on these numbers.....Woman Frustrated

@Spurt  I just thought it was crazy that they are marketing Medicare to someone who won't be eligible for it for at least two more decades.

On what list am I 65 years old?  I do lie about my age sometimes online when I am asked to sign up for emails because it is none of their business but it is in the other direction and only by about 5 years!

I swear the telemarketers must all share one brain and not have much cell power left in it.

We also bought the call blocker with the big red button, and, love it! I highly recommend to everyone!

People start receiving all kinds of junk at age 50, and coincidentaly Aarp's eligibilty starts at that age for their magazine and programs and offers.....

They arent the only ones, I think these companies have a magic number to start soliciting for medicare stuff way way ahead of time....Just wait until Amazon gets their health insurance division up and running,  dont you know they'll be utilizing their huge customer data base...

This is from a CNBC report

As Amazon moves into health care, here's what we know — and what we suspect — about its plans

  • Amazon is already making moves in health care.
  • It's no longer speculation at this point.
  • Here's what the company's hiring and product development roadmap points to for the future.

Published 12:27 PM ET Tue, 27 March 2018  Updated 3:20 PM ET Tue, 27 March 2018

  • What's realistic is that Amazon will at least attempt to get into health care on multiple fronts, and it will be more successful in some areas than in others. The hiring points to a broad strategy, as it now has experts from biopharma, primary care, health insurance and other sectors, on the payroll.

Anyone get those annoying calls saying you may qualify for a free medical brace for your knees or back?  I get 3 of those a day and they do leave a message in my voice mail.  I wish they would get shut down.  And they always call from a different number.

My phone was pretty quiet over the holidays but the calls are back today. Crooks are not going to pay attention to “do not call” lists.

I answer sometimes just to waste their time. For some reason, they don’t appreciate hearing that they have reached the US Federal Dept of Fraud.

I keep my phone unplugged. If the call is important then they can leave voice mail. I also own one of those red-button CallBlocker things and it works but not as much as I want it to. Unwanted calls still come through...many in fact.
