Re: Has anyone rec'd emails for Social Security this week?

[ Edited ]

Oh NO......I try to keep all my financial info on PAPER in a regular file cabinet.     Easier for me to access....especially during an OUTAGE.

(I tend to PANIC when the computer goes down) and yesterday I was offline from midnight to almost noon...

I received one a few weeks ago.  It has to do with how in the future you will access your account.  You will have to use the site login.gov.  I set it up, it is a lot more secure.  Using the login.gov requires the two step verification.  I have been setting up a lot of my online financial accounts using this method.  It is more secure.

I don't understand the fear they have about emails.  If they read the email they would have received the information about keeping their SSA account secure and safe with SSA gov.  I set my account up when I first applied for benefits.  It's how applied for benefits.  It's unfortunate that their fear deprived them of the safety and security they need.  I also do all of my banking and financial transactions through secure portals that have two step verification.

Re: Has anyone rec'd emails for Social Security this week?

I receive emails from Social Security every so often.

The most recent was about their new login requirements. I did NOT click on the link but went to mysocialsecurity and the info was right there on the front page.

I use Outlook and can check the box next to the message, click on block, and it'll tell me the real sender. If it's legitimate, I cancel the block and open the message.

I've been receiving Social Security since 2012. I have never received an email. What would they be emailing about? I get the notice late in the year with my new SS amount for the next year and the tax info. in january. Both of these come USPS mail.

@50Mickey Same for me, I don't receive emails from them, only a statement at the end of the year about increase for the following year and also tax info.mailed from usps.

If you haven't signed up for an online account with Social Security, I believe all notifications still come via USPS.  You shouldn't be getting emails from them unless you have an online account.  As far as I know.🤷‍♀️

Well, I got myself "signed up".     (Just ANOTHER thing to confuse me...I am NOT very "tech oriented").

Thank you all for bringing up this subject.    I HAD NO IDEA !!!   di

Yes.

I have an online account which I created many years ago to monitor my earnings record and estimated benefits.

I received the email about converting to the new login format.

Takes only a few minutes to create the new LOGIN.GOV account.
