Usually Social Security sends updates via USPS so when I received two emails from "Social Security" this week, I didn't open them. Just deleted them both.
Curious is anyone else received anything from Social Security or were these, in fact, SPAM and I was correct in deleting them? TIA.

Yes, my DH and I received emails from them this week, was not spam.
But I can easliy understand why anyone would not trust it.

One way to tell is to hover over (pc) or click (phone, etc) the sending address. That should give a good indication if it's spam or real. If you still can't tell from that, check for the same info on the actual website.

The Social Security email policy is below, taken from the SS website. There is currently a notice from Social Security via most news broadcasts that the SS system has been hacked.
From SS website:
Unless you signed up to receive emails from SS I think you did the right thing by deleting.

I sent it to my DH, and dont know if he opened it or not, I let him decide. He just told me he deleted it.

The emails might have been about the hacking. I thinks millions social security numbers were compromised from their website. My husband's social security number was compromised, but he has a lock on his SSN.

I gave Social Security my email address, so they do contact me from time to time. The most recent email was to advise me that those with online Social Security accounts must create an account with login.gov. Those who already have a login.gov account need to move their Social Security login to it.
Social Security wasn't hacked, but a background check company was breached.

I received one a few weeks ago. It has to do with how in the future you will access your account. You will have to use the site login.gov. I set it up, it is a lot more secure. Using the login.gov requires the two step verification. I have been setting up a lot of my online financial accounts using this method. It is more secure.
