Has anyone given their pet FreshPets refrigerated dog food?

I saw a commercial for this tonight, and I'm intrigued. There are several different kinds, as well as treats, but they have a formula with brown rice, gravy, meat and veggies. It comes in a log type package, and you cut a slice off, chop it up, and give to your pet. Just wondering if anyone had tried it with their dogs. Mine get a Royal Canin, and love it, and haven't had any digestional issues, but I thought this looked nice for them to have sometimes. I thought it might help their coats look more shiny, as well. Also, does anyone do dog food in a slow cooker? Rice, broth, chicken, carrots, peas? I've often thought of trying it, but never have. Anyway, thanks for any input you can give!

Re: Has anyone given their pet FreshPets refrigerated dog food?

I can highly recommend fresh pet select! Several years ago, our geriatric collie -- who was suffering from increasingly bad arthritis -- began to lose his appetite. Initially I started to cook him meals (chicken breast/rice/veggies) according to one of the vet's recipes, but then he wouldn't eat that either.

So I bought one of those logs you're talking about it, chopped it up (you don't heat it or anything) -- and he wolfed it down! It was the only thing he ate the last several months of his life, and the excellent nutrition gave him increased strength to pull himself up, etc., even with the bad arthritis. It was amazing what it did for him.

Even as he deteriorated, he still ate, and even on the day he died. I can't say enough about this food. It gave our dog excellent nutrition, and I can only imagine how it would taste and be effective in a younger dog.

We even tried the cat version of freshpet select (little soft nuggets) for our hard-to-please cat when he was older and ill, and he loved to eat it!

My only wish is that this food existed when my pets at the time were younger. It did them a world of good, even in their last years.

Hope this helps!

I use Primal raw, which comes in either individual servings or patties, which are found in the freezer of a pet supply store.

I feed my two little rescues Freshpet.Been on it for 3 years and both healthy .My tiny Maltese never gets black rings under eyes often caused by fillers and dye in other pet foods. It works well for us.

I feed prey model raw. My dogs get raw meaty bones from the meat dept. One of them also gets Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw.

I've thought about it. Our dogs are so spoiled -- as they should be. Smiley Wink Can I ask what recipe you use, and what type of dog you have?

I've read up on this, but honestly, I don't know if I could do it. I don't know if I can handle the organs and different kinds of raw meat -- it grosses me out so much. I'm not even crazy about cooking chicken for myself! Lol! On a side note, jax, I really appreciate the hair oil recipe. I made it earlier this week and I've tried it a few times. I'll page you and the others in a few months to let you know how it's working!! Smiley Wink

I got the Fresh Pets at my local grocery tonight, and the dogs completely devoured it. So they must like carrots and peas -- and chicken and rice. Smiley Wink I'll probably just do it in replacement of one meal a day. We also got some of the treats, and will try it out later. Thanks again to everyone for your input!!
