I can highly recommend fresh pet select! Several years ago, our geriatric collie -- who was suffering from increasingly bad arthritis -- began to lose his appetite. Initially I started to cook him meals (chicken breast/rice/veggies) according to one of the vet's recipes, but then he wouldn't eat that either.
So I bought one of those logs you're talking about it, chopped it up (you don't heat it or anything) -- and he wolfed it down! It was the only thing he ate the last several months of his life, and the excellent nutrition gave him increased strength to pull himself up, etc., even with the bad arthritis. It was amazing what it did for him.
Even as he deteriorated, he still ate, and even on the day he died. I can't say enough about this food. It gave our dog excellent nutrition, and I can only imagine how it would taste and be effective in a younger dog.
We even tried the cat version of freshpet select (little soft nuggets) for our hard-to-please cat when he was older and ill, and he loved to eat it!
My only wish is that this food existed when my pets at the time were younger. It did them a world of good, even in their last years.
Hope this helps!

I use Primal raw, which comes in either individual servings or patties, which are found in the freezer of a pet supply store.

I feed prey model raw. My dogs get raw meaty bones from the meat dept. One of them also gets Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw.

I'm not even crazy about cooking chicken for myself! Lol! On a side note, jax, I really appreciate the hair oil recipe. I made it earlier this week and I've tried it a few times. I'll page you and the others in a few months to let you know how it's working!!I feed prey model raw. My dogs get raw meaty bones from the meat dept.
