Has anyone experienced this (thigh issue)

I'm wondering if anyone experienced this!

For days I had pain in the leg. I thought sciatica because yes I have a bad spine. I had shots weeks ago so my back is not as bad, just the leg. So I called and the Dr. ordered me steroids that worked before for sciatica (by the next day).

Now it is days later on mega steroids and my "thigh only" is in extreme pain and I am talking the worst pain in my life. I cannot put pressure on it sitting or i go through the roof!

Getting in and out of the car is horrendous as yesterday I thought i could go to the grocery store with my husband. Big mistake! Being Im the passenger in the car I had to use my right leg to get out. My thigh pain was so bad when I tried to use my right leg I fell into the car door and caught myself (didn't fall to the ground). I ended up getting back in the car by manually lifting my leg in by hand. My husband did the shopping, I waited in car. When I got home same thing, could barely get out of the car.

So I stayed put now and rested. Took pain meds, IB, muscle relaxants I have for my back, steroids, used tens unit, ice AND heat. Nothing is helping!

So I'm on all these steroids and the pain is not better. Sitting here typing I am leaning to the left as to not put pressure on my thigh. Also when I touch it, it feels like I was beat up and in bad pain if pushing on it. But if I let it go and lean to the left side NO pain. Its weird!

"So, it seems to me its the muscles"

I was trying to let the steroids work but i cant take it anymore, so I am calling the Dr again in the morning to try to get in to be seen.

PS in addition to the bad spine, i have a bad hip and knee (the later 2 on right side as in where the thigh pain is). BUT i never ever had this thigh pain in my life! It feels like my thigh is broke but I didnt do anything, so its not broke! It DOES ease up if I lean to left when sitting. Its just when I activate the thigh as in when the thigh is being used OR down on the seat all the way that the severe pain sets in.

Re: Has anyone experienced this (thigh issue)

Shorty I am going through the same thing almost like you this exact moment. I just told my family I think I am going to have to go and get a shot in my knee. I can't hobble around this home any more. My thigh and knee are absolutely driving me out of my mind. I have been going through the streets of hel- for over a year with this thigh issue. I can only get in the car on the drivers side, can only get in my own car no one elses and I just about have to fall into the seat to get in then I drag my leg in while the pain is shooting through the knee and thigh. Everyone want to have a gang here for Labor Day and I have told them I will cook and get things ready for them but I just might have to sit in here. My friend is having horrible pains in her thigh now at this moment . We had to a function this past weekend and she she really suffered. She is afraid to even walk on her foot afraid she will lose her balance and fall over. She thinks it is her sciatica nerve that is giving her grief. How is yours when you go to bed? I know darn well that I moan all night long and I fear this is going to cause me to need a hip replacement along with a knee replacement. I sur hope that your doctor can give you something to ease your pain. Just know you are not alone in this world of pain.

[ Edited ]

I am sorry to hear you are suffering too. I hope you get better! Wow thats something it sounds the same (except my knee doesnt seem to be bothering me with this thigh pain now).

I have mega pain releivers for my back, theyre not working for this thigh issue at all. (And I cant believe it!).

In bed the thigh hurts some but no not like when its in use or leaning the thigh down on a chair.

I was thinking the same as you, maybe it is from my hip and I will need a hip. My right hip is damaged with arthritis and my knee has bursistis. (And of course my spine is my main issue) So I thought sciatia but that usually shoots from the spine down, so this is just weird! I hope the Dr has answers.

PS Thanks for the tip. My gosh where is my brain? (lol). I didnt even think to sit behind my husband in the car then I can use my left leg to get out! So I am going to try that when I go to the Dr. (I rarely drive anymore due to my meds/spine and nerve damage or Id drive). But we have a 4 door so I will sit behind him!

Shorty and cater, I feel badly for you two being in so much pain.  I hope you can get to your respective doctors and get your problems diagnosed and fixed.  It's terrible that you can't get in or out of the car.  I can't help but think what a fix I'd be in under those circumstances because I live alone.

I'll be thinking of you both.

@Shorty2U: I just saw my ortho dr today and one of my complaints was upper thigh pain radiating when I walked from my hip OR sitting yikes!

she gave me a mega shot of steroid in my hip as my brucitis (sp.) is really in a flare up from my RA symptoms.

I hope you find some relief and answers. 🙏🏻 for better days for you and @@cater.

Re: Has anyone experienced this (thigh issue)

Kachina I started having knee problems when I was in my 20's and I did everything that had to be done around this place plus I had two jobs. I would mow all the grass walking then come in lay on the floor my legs hurt so bad. All these years I have gone and had shots in my knee's every doctor I went to said I needed knee replacements but I was too young.  Then one of my family members went for a  knee replacement operation and to make a long story short they had the operation never got to get out of bed they were in so much pain that in a week they were dead. Needless to say that scene did it for me so here I am way older and hobbling around here. But now it has gotten so bad I just might have to go and take my chances and get it done. No one can say I didn't earn these bad legs lord knows I have done every thing from climbing ladders carrying cement bags etc.

Re: Has anyone experienced this (thigh issue)

@cater   Cater,I had a knee replacement in 2011, and was amazed that there was so little pain, considering the trauma the knee endured.  The only time I was in excruciating pain was about 3 weeks out from surgery on a morning after I'd decided to take a turn through T J Maxx.  I woke up feeling like I had a blow-torch on my knee.  A lot of ice and some strong meds got things under control.  Lesson learned.

The PT is grueling but bearable and I'm no jock.  It's really not as bad as you've probably built it up in your mind.  I stayed at a rehab facility two weeks after the surgery, then went home and took care of myself.

You know, those shots get less and less effective as time goes on.  They don't work indefinitely.  I got to the point where they didn't work at all, plus my doctor didn't like me getting so many steroids.

I hear Medicare is going to make the requirements for joint replacement surgery more stringent.  I'm thinking about my other knee.

I know Shorty has back problems similar to mine.

@homedecor1.  I'm glad you got to your doctor and hope the shot gives you some relief.  Did you ask about doing a lot of walking....the wisdom of doing it, that is?

Yes, that Voltaren is good stuff.  I rub a dab of it on my lower back every morning, sit on the bed about 20 min to allow it to absorb, then I can move pretty much pain free at least for awhile.

The pain may not be anything you need shots for. It sounds just like what I am experiencing now. The issue is IT Band Syndrome. The IT Band looks like this:

See how it runs into the muscles all into your hips, gluteus and knee? So you can get pain in all those places. Runner's get this alot, but anyone can, especially if you don't excersize. To take care of it is actually simple. The best thing for it is to get one of those white foam cylinders (Get white first, then work up to blue, then black.) You lay on your side and roll the side of your thigh over and over on it. It hurts!! But it will get better. Also, because these bands compensate for eachother, do both sides. Do from the side of the butt all the way to the knee.

If you get massages, tell them to turn you on your side and beat the cr$^&^p out of your IT Band. It really helps. Basically, what you are doing it tenderizing it, just like you do with veal when you make scallopini!

Re: Has anyone experienced this (thigh issue)

You may need to visit a Chiropractor.  I was in a bad car accident and had a bad issue like this.  Could only stand up or lay down.  Sitting was impossible.  Hubbie also had an issue...both of us with the sciatica nerve going down the leg.  The Chiropractor adjusted us both, and with some special care, we both got better.  Steroids doesn't sound safe, and meds aren't always what is needed.  Sounds like a pinched nerve, doesn't it?
