We live 90 miles from there & that's as close as we care to come. Our Cuban friends keep us apprised of the beauty of that country & what it could be.

I have a friend who visited there and sent a lot of pictures last year. Her husband went on business and she tagged along. She seemed quite impressed with it. She's a very talented professional painter and teacher and was interested to learn that artists are held in high esteem in Cuba, even more so than doctors.

I keep being reminded that I must be older than dirt, but I remember being there PRIOR to Castro. We used to break our travel there on the way back to the States. No jets or direct flights from south America in those days.

So my dad was there 60 years ago while in the military. I asked him if he would like to visit if he had the chance - he's 90! He said oh yes, very much. He traveled all over the world and said Cuba was stunningly beautiful. He is also sad about the past 50+ years...on a new note, two of my co-workers just got back. They confirmed, that yes, landscape wise, it is breath taking...more beautiful than any of the other Caribbean islands...unfortunately, the buildings, roads, shops, are in really bad shape. They said the Cuban people are so warm, welcoming, friendly, gracious. Just hope their government makes desperately needed changes.

I would also love to go there. My aunt went to Havana before the revolution. It has an interesting history, and I've heard the people are just wonderful.
