Re: Has Anyone Received Clothing that Feels Wet???

Does sound like a humidity problem and I am sure the delivery trucks are not air conditioned where the packages are stored.

Wetness is the formaldehyde that is applied to the fabric shipped from overseas to keep the "bugs" out of it (& retards mildew).   That is why you wash clothing prior to wearing ... formaldehyde can cause dermatitis, plus that is the odor many of you mention in your reviews.

Do you see why I purchase USA only.

Let me add I have gotten a lot of clothing from Talbots for many many years and NEVER had this problem with their clothes shipped in bags.  I hadn't thought of that, but it's only from QVC.

@seaBreeze, I tried to find a source for this but couldn't. Where did you see that formaldehyde makes clothing wet?

Re: Has Anyone Received Clothing that Feels Wet???

Formaldehyde is a water soluble (gas), so combined with the fabric dyes, these are the only "liquid" within the fibers which is "within the plastic bag" ... it contributes to the wetness/odor/irritant.   This is my recollection of why clothes arrive damp which I also received from Imported countries ... it is not from the plastic bag sitting in a delivery truck in humid weather, but this will certain exacerbate the problem.

Great topic and discussion~!                                           @suzyQ3

I don't believe manufacturers could get away with soaking garments with formaldehyde, and I don't believe they're wet.  If they were damp, by the time you got them, they'd smell to high heaven of mildew.  There's something about temperature change that makes them feel wet.

I rarely order clothing on line  I have ordered sheets and comforters in the past and I can say that I have never recevied anything fom any company that felt wet. If these clothes were damp and sealed up in a plastic bag in the heat they would smell aweful.

Kachina,

Temp changes is what turns gas into a liquid (e.g., condensation).  A perfect environment for this would be a garment treated to 'ship' in a plastic bag loaded on a cargo vessel from Asia~!

That was the other thing that I thought odd.  No mold or mildew smell.  I have a very sensitive nose and will often smell something in the air before anyone else.  I didn't smell anything odd or off that one would expect of wet clothing.  Just the usual odor you get with new clothing.  However, it did still feel wet and cold in comparison to the plastic which was hot.
