I just find it ridiculous that discussion on such important topics are banned on these boards. Only frivolous, soft topics like "what color of lipstick do you like?" that nobody even cares about are all that are allowed here!!

Posters get banned on this board too.

They do, but I've been posting here since 2007, and never been banned.  Have some of my posts been removed?  Yes!  In fact, more than "some", probably more like hundreds.

A mod typically leaves a note as to why it got removed, and often it's because it's about a topic not allowed.  I appreciate that they didn't ban me for these posts.

I usually just post in the evening, so am not aware of threads that got "heated" during the day and were deleted.

@september

i dont know how it works on PB, but here at least you can get in touch with the mods easily via their email and they are good at responding.....whether you have trouble getting in, signing in, or have been banned eiher temporarily or permanently. i have been banned temporarily twice, but a long time ago. once was a mistake that the mods corrected immediately and once was for posting coupon codes. either way, it was nice to know i had a direct line to them and that they could provide an explanation.

@Sapphiregal  I like QVC's policy. Controversial subjects such as politics and religion just foment arguments that get more and more heated. Nobody ever changes anyone's mind. There are other boards where you can discuss those things, no need to complain about it here.

@BalletBabe   The overall biggest problem is that both boards are discussed at both places.

I don't know who was involved in this latest row-di-dow but it is unfair to put all the blame overall on Q posters when posters from over there pop in here to bait and stir.

Both sides have these issues.

And it is always the same ones with hearts from the same posters.

It would be better if people would just stop once and for all.  Post where you please, take what you like, leave the rest.

The thread was to help OR with her banning issues and it seems to have been resolved.

It was just that simple.

@Cakers3   I don't agree with the situation with me.  I saw the post and I know who it is.  I won't respond or comment on anything they ever post.  It was that one comment that made the situation look terrible.  It is ok.  Like I said , I have a very busy life and don't have mo time for Bologna or people that like to cause trouble.  Life is short.  I just buried my Sister and it makes me realize that non sense on any board is a waste of my time. When a board becomes a place of drama then I will leave.

@BalletBabe  You made quite a bit of drama or bologna over here when you thought you were banned on proboards. The aforementioned "rant" was a good description, as is "flying off the handle."

Having posted in the past on completely unmoderated forums, I can assure you that even soft topics like "what color lipstick do you like" could devolve into death threats without moderation. People are a little crazy when sitting behind a keyboard.

Take your lipstick topic for example. If someone said they loved bright red lipstick, another poster could insist that meant they were a prostitute as only prostitutes wear bright red lipstick. The pro-red lipstick and anti-red lipstick sides would stake out their ground and attack one another. God help anyone who liked nude or pink colors. They're too wishy-washy to pick a real color! And blue or black? Forget about it!

There are left-leaning boards and right-leaning boards where people can discuss politics or news issues among people with similar beliefs where the fighting is less likely to occur. Real discussion is also less likely to occur. Real discussion is often more of what we need.

We've become a country/world where narrative matters more than reality. People choose a narrative to believe and refuse to veer from that belief. They know they're right therefore anyone who doesn't share that belief is wrong. Opening their mind to the possibility that the narrative they've bought into could be wrong is very hard for most people. Once someone forms a belief, changing that belief is challenging and often impossible. A fight on a discussion board won't open a mind and change a belief. It just lets those who believe one narrative find others who agree with them and reinforce those beliefs.

In the old days on Viewpoints we would occasionally have a one-on-one discussion between two relatively well-informed people of different beliefs on subjects. Those were fun to watch. Often though you just got two gangs of people with dissenting views hurling insults back and forth which isn't fun or informative.

Laughing at those with majestically busy lives leaving no time to post anywhere,  but are continually posting.  Hysterical!
