@maximillian @suzyQ3   Yep it's true, many cities are now releasing folks from jails & prisons, they are doing the same here in the Columbus OH area. Hopefully the courts are really looking at why people are behind bars before they (the courts) are just tossing out the keys to release.

Could someone explain to me why they are releasing prisoners....early?? I haven't heard much on it and don't understand why.

Re: Harvey Weinstein

Columbus, Ohio: Some inmates have been released from Cuyahoga County Jail in Ohio. The low-level, nonviolent inmates have been released, either by being placed on probation or by having their bond reduced to a manageable level, or sentenced to the Ohio Department of Corrections prison.

The measures are designed to lower the jail's population in the case of a coronavirus outbreak, officials said. "We are trying to make as much room as possible, so when this virus hits our jail, the jail can deal with these people, quarantine them and deal with it instead of letting them sit there and infect the whole entire jail."

No inmate or staff member at Cuyahoga County jail has tested positive for the coronavirus. 3/16/20

wsj reports..

Local governments across the U.S. are releasing thousands of inmates in an unprecedented effort to prevent a coronavirus outbreak in crowded jails and prisons.

Jails in California, New York, Ohio, Texas and at least a dozen other states are sending low-level offenders and elderly or sickly inmates home early due to coronavirus fears. Officials are banning visitors, restricting inmates' movement and screening staff.

Weinstein is not "sick" but his test was positive.  So was Rand Paul's (Congressman or Senator).

THAT is what scares me so much about this virus.

People can have it and be asymptomatic.

They think they're fine and next thing you know ... they've tested positive.

Being an "older" person, I wear a mask & gloves when I got grocery shopping.

If he is not sick, I don't think they should have wasted a test on him. People are not able to get tested where I am, unless they are in very bad shape, due to there being so few test kits here.

Which I do not understand some state's lack of test kits.

I would think we were living in a third world country, the way some of this has played out. May the Good Lord help us all, cause my news is saying that this isn't gonna peak for another

6-8 weeks. And I'm not sure how thats gonna go.

@happycat

I am perplexed about why some people, who are not sick, are getting tested!! No one here can get a test unless they are showing symptoms. It appears to me that some people are getting tested just as a matter of happenstance and not because they are sick.

Some people are getting tested just because they might have been exposed...?? Don't we all fall into that category? ***eye roll***

@SilleeMee. I see your point but I have not to my knowledge been exposed to it, as opposed to many whom to their knowledge have been.
