Do you have studies that are showing you this is like an HIV vs AIDS situation? I've only heard you make that distinction, and I know you are up to date with scientific studies.

Well, it reminds of AIDS when I first heard about it back in the '80's.

People who had it, didn't know they had it and could infect others eventho' they looked perfectly healthy.

Someone can test positive for the coronavirus and never come down with COVID-19, which is the disease the virus causes. COVID-19 stands for COronaVIrusDisease 2019 vs coronavirus. People are using the terms interchangeably and that is incorrect.

@SilleeMee, is they test positive, they have the virus. Some may not exhibit any symptoms. But they have it and can infect others.

You mean the everyday cold coronavirus that has been listed on the back of Lysol bottles for years? I think people are all talking about this novel virus when they refer to coronavirus or COVID-19.

Now if Harvey Weinstein called in all the newspapers to announce to the world he has a dang cold, I'd like to kick him in the hiney!

This report says..

Officials believe Weinstein contracted the virus at Rikers Island in New York City, where he was being held until Wednesday. The jail has struggled to contain an outbreak of the disease inside of the facility where 38 guards and inmates have tested positive for it.

DailyBeast report

...Immediately after the verdict, he was transported to New York’s Bellevue Hospital instead of the Rikers Island jail complex after experiencing high blood pressure and heart palpitations. Before his March 11 sentencing, the 68-year-old,who had a failed back surgery just before his trial, had a stent placed for a blockage.

Hours after he learned his fate, Weinstein was again brought to the hospital instead of prison with chest pain complaints. He eventually ended up at Rikers, where 21 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, before being transferred to the intake center at Wende on Wednesday...

At present the only test available detects viral genetic material. If the genetic material is present then that is called a positive test. That does not mean the person has COVID-19 which is the illness caused by the presence of the virus. The CV test is used to confirm illness caused by CV. @suzyQ3

CV test is used to differentiate illness from CV vs  from some other infectious agent.

Why is it that he can get tested so quickly but healthcare workers can't????

Obviously with him insisting he needs to go to the hospital every few days instead of being in prison where he belongs, he came in contact with the virus.

Prisoners should remain in jail; they're probably safer there from this virus.

@SilleeMee, can you provide a source that says that a positive test does not mean that the person has Covid-19?

This is very interesting....I don't believe I understand it LOL!  Is it like having antibodies to it that comes up?  Any further explanation would be helpful @SilleeMee

@Porcelain

COVID-19 is an illness caused by a virus and, in this case, that virus is a particular strain of coronavirus which happens to be one of a few in the coronavirus family which can cause illness. Coronavirus disease (aka COVID 19) is the illness caused by the new strain of cv.
