@Snoopp I'm not sure about other professions or schools, but UCLA med students will be on campus beginning in August.  My daughter will have class 2 days per week. The remainder of the time they will be studying for a test they take toward the end of the year.  She shares an on-campus apartment with one other student.

They've decided that the virus is not going away any time soon, so they don't want to hold the students back any longer. They were able to do their classes and research from home from mid-March until the end of July.

@Linmo, I did read that the vast majority of students will be taking their classes online at UCLA (my beloved alma mater). What a shame, but safety comes first.

It was announced today that if there are no in person classes students here on visa will have to leave.  Full course online classes is not enough.  Thousands of students may be affected.

There are lots of college students who are doing "gap years", and I am sure the visa students can do the same.

Maybe, @Hoovermom. But I especially feel for those who are close to finishing their degrees and either putting it to work here or back home. Plus, who knows what the visa status will be for them from hereon. It's a mess for all students, from elementary on up.

Unless Visa students are taking in person classes, they will have to leave.  On line classes do not fulfill visa requirements.

at the law school my daughter attends, they will be doing a mix of online classes and in person classes. it was officially announced today. the undergrads at the same school will be doing the same. she would rather do all in person classes and she hated this past semester because they were only graded pass/fail. she will be attending......this is her last year of law school and she is ready to be out in the world again working. she will have a job offer for NEXT fall when she finishes her summer internship. of course she will have to pass the BAR also after graduating.

classes are scheduled to end at thanksgiving break, with no other breaks during the semester. after that break, exams will be scheduled and if they are done online, students can be home and take them there.

What about the deposit money they may have already paid for housing and meal plans....plus lab fees for classes where they won’t attend labs....major refunds should be coming but am sure the school will keep most of it.

My son graduated in May from WVU. Well he finished, no grad ceremony of course. I am so glad he is done. He is also, not because of Covid, but because he is ready to start working and make some money. Lol

We need to have students going back to colleges and universities! We need medical students graduating so they can become doctors and new teachers graduating to teach our kids....and we need our children to be able to go back to their friends, teachers, schools, and classrooms. The only functional, stable place for many children.

I have taken both in person and on line classes, from my experience in person classes far exceed online.
