You might be interested in this story about a group trying to erect a Satanic statue on public grounds, with much the same motive:

One can be outraged or upset by certain behaviors/beliefs but still recognize the right of people to hold them.

WBC had the right to protest as did the ""Angels"" to assemble to protect the families from their actions.

I think the Catholic church having an alternate service at the same time, different location is a great way to deal with their feelings about it.

Yes that would be a good thing.

I find it interesting that the same ones outraged by Westboro Baptist's beliefs seem to be so tolerant of Satanists' beliefs.......and their mockery of the Catholic church.

I am actually very surprised at some of the responses on here and am leaving this thread quickly.

It has nothing to do with tolerance, it's about the law.

The point of this Satanic movement is to fortify the separation of church and state, because the hard fact is that it has to be freedom of religion for all religions. We knew this was coming, one way or another.

I don't think it is either or. I don't agree with the members of the Westboro church's beliefs at all, but under the US Constitution, they have their right to free speech. That is the law of the land. Fortunately, we have a group of wonderful veterans that very peacefully assemble and provide a human screen between the grieving family of the lost military/veteran community and those individuals from Westboro.

The KKK planned a big rally in our area a number of years ago and the press was making a big deal out of it. I was proud of our community in that people interviewed before the rally stated how they deplored the KKK, but it was their right to have a rally and they didn't plan on giving it any attention. The day of the rally came and I think all of about 6 KKK members showed. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} Members of the press there covering it outnumbered the group that assembled considerably. No one gave (besides the press) gave them an iota of attention that day. And that was the last we have seen of them thank goodness.

Sometimes ignoring something is the best way to go. Wink It doesn't mean that one is tolerant by any means.

edited because I can't spell!!!
