You should be proud of all you accomplished over the years.
It is too bad that it is so expensive to participate in this group,
particularly on the level you have reached.
I know you will find an alternative that will still give you great joy. It might take a while, but I can bet there are many groups that will welcome you. I do think there will be a number of people adjusting their standard of spending money over time.
And you and your hubby will doubtless find interests you can do together without breaking the bank.
Take care, and blessings to you.

I hope you can continue your talent & fun locally with perhaps a smaller local group ( maybe start one ) so that you can continue to share with each other and an audience.
Maybe senior groups ( assisted living homes ) elementary schools, shelters...any people who would benefit from this unique and mezmorizing type of sound, could bring a lot of happiness.
Heck maybe even do Birthday grams or other events showing up at peoples work lol
Think about it!

@smoochy -- Is a part-time job a possibility? Maybe doing pop-up singing at birthday events? Or something similar where you can control your schedule and be available for rehearsals and travel? You can probably find some kind of job to support this wonderful hobby.

@drizzellla wrote:@smoochy I am so glad you were able to participate as long as you did. Wish it was longer but so glad you had the experience and good memories. You have to do something that you love, wish you could have done it longer.
My cousin was in a barbershop quartet from Michigan. They competed in different Barbershop Harmony Society Conventions. He did it for many years.
I recently bought a backpack of the Dapper Dans. It makes me smile just looking at it.
Enjoy all the good memories and be glad you were able to be part of the experience while you could.
my director's quartet won the gold medal at the BHS international competition last year. Their name is Three Ă nd a Half Men

Wow you must be talented @smoochy . Hate that you had to give it up, but you are blessed with many years of performing and fond memories. Will you stay in touch with other members of the group?
As others have stated, is there anything locally you can participate in?

@smoochy WOW!
Warning: Im going to "go off" here.
I guess this is a bugaboo of mine.
In the old days, I would have taken an energetic walk before composing this following hot text.
but here goes:
I had NO idea performers paid "dues," albeit, a steep $60/month dues.
Let alone, ALSO, performers devote (MUCH time, &) pay "all," even the most basic requirements associated with their own wonderful performances, that attendees attend!
Any various performances I've been in, or many/all I attended, *NEVER* EVER did the actual, exerting performers have to pay, unless they wanted additional, non-standard gear!.
Attendees/Donations/Sponsorships/Advertisers/Ticket Sales/Love Offerings - paid! That was Mgt's job!
I cant help feel that Mgt is taking advantage, at the very minimum, of the actual performers. Some might call it "lazy, easy money" for Mgt (What, do the performers have to sweep the floors, swab down the seats of attendees, before & after their very own performances too?
)
My mind is blown! And, my blood boiling.
In the very least, during this "Electronic Age," I see ppl monetizing even ONE SINGLE FOOD RECIPE (for min $3+/ PER SINGLE Food Recipe (using Pinterest, Etsy, TikTok, YouTube, maybe Facebook, & any other, incl thru Electronic means). I used to semi-joke that there were more FREE Food recipes online than Porn! Now, these Recipe Sellers r innovative & making money off this. Why not the Arts. C'mon Arts Mgt!
Admittedly, it might be an opportunity, or need, to possibly hire a tried & true trusted proved investigation/investigator into these money-trail, Performance Mgt's detailed, Money Mgt practices, to the cent! AND, this should also Incl all fully disclosed, required money-trail Income Reporting, incl Individually.
I find all this so distasteful, that I'm even reluctant to continue to attend performances now, unless i know that the Performers arent being possibly "soaked" for their inordinate, unwarranted performance expenses.
Good luck & prayers, @smoochy
I've always always loved every Sweet Adelaines performances! Thank you for performing & offering me this delight!

yep that's exactly how I'm looking at it

I have been watching many videos of the Ohio State band. And in the mix I saw Three and a Half Men performing. Now I will check them out again. Thanks for the heads up.
I enjoyed watching my cousin compete. And spent many many hours taking my son to bagpipe practice and then watching him perform with a symphony orchestra and in numerous parades.
Can't think of a better way to spend my time on these bitter cold days.

I was thinking about your situation today because I was surprised by how much you all are out of pocket.
Since kids' little league and other sports teams find sponsors, it's a shame there wasn't a sponsor for your group.
Did your group ever seek outside funding?

Hi @monicakm
Im outraged that the actual performers, like famous "Sweet Adelines" (Int'l), are required to "fork over" a totally unreasonable $60/mo Membership, *AND* pay for total performance accouterments, ex, costumes, makeup, plus Hotels/Travel/Food for each of these performances.
imho, Their Mgt need to be professionally investigated, for activities ranging from possible poor, lazy (mis)Mgt, to possibly criminal mgt, activities.
Every expense of performances I've been in, or asked about when I attended, have been covered by:
Attendees/Donations/Sponsorships/Advertisers/Ticket Sales/Love Offerings;
Certainly NOT the performers themselves!
