The whole twelve days of Christmas thing has always appealed to me as a child, because it includes my early January birthday in the Christmas festivity orbit. And I love the song. I could go around saying that I was born on the 10th day of Christmas, when "10 Lords were Leaping"!

The gifts they brought to the Christ Child were gold, because he was a king, frankincense because he was God, and myrrh because he was a man.
It has been speculated the Holy Family used the gold to live on in Egypt, when they fled from King Herod
The Myrrh was included in the things they used to prepare Christ for burial

We don't know how many Magi there really were. The people say 3 because there were 3 gifts. But they have ancient icons and pictures of varying amounts of the magi
It is really interesting to unearth some of the things they do know about these men
The were thought to be a priestly cast in Iran and Iraq called Zoroaster's(sp) who worshipped fire. They were highly intelligent ,and knew all sort of things about the stars, and astrology and astronomy, which at this period of time, were not 2 different fields of study, but just one
There was a website in Iran, that talked about the Magi, and it was very interesting. Since the crackdown ,I can't fnd it now

This is a link to Fr Longenecker who has written a different book about the magi. @Noel7 you will be interested to know he lives or lived in England and was an Anglican priest who later became a Catholic one
He has a couple of videos telling us what he found in his research about the Magi
He is a very interesting guy, highly educated, and literate

Regarding Epiphany, I am Methodist and we always celebrated in Jan. 6. I guess it is just the difference in religions.

Sorry, that should read he lives, not he lies. Spell check didn't catch it, nor did I

My mother of the Moravian church and now I do the same. Just a nice way to stay mindful throughout the season.
A blessed Epiphany to those who observe and a Happy Christmas to the Orthodox Christians here!

I am Roman Catholic and we never took down our Christmas decorations until after the Epiphany. I still don't. Sometimes I leave them up the whole winter because they are pretty and puts some life into the house.
Thanks to you all who shared your posts. Blessings!

The "Reyes Magos" is a lovely Spanish tradition, particularly for children
