Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

If he hadn't been assassinated in 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have been 92 today. Imagine how much more he could have done. And yet, in the time he was here, such a life well lived.

Happy Birthday Dr. King

I will never forget visiting Memphis with my Mom. The Civil Rights Museum, and the place where he was shot. Very sad and sobering.

[ Edited ]

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  May he rest in peace.

The beings and minds of seekers/questers of peace have always fascinated me, and I tend to save my greatest admiration for such souls.  MLK was such a being and sits in my pantheon of peacemakers.  This sort of presence is sorely needed now more than ever.  (Big sigh.)

A few minutes ago I was speaking to a rep at the U.S. Department of Transportation Credit Union, and it suddenly occurred to me that she should be on her MLK holiday today.  It is his actual birthday, and the federal government holiday policy of floating some holidays to be on a Friday or Monday to create a three-day weekend would have occurred organically, without having to put the date into its three-day weekend-making machine.  She informed me, though, the holiday will be celebrated this coming Monday.

Perhaps this was done to create more time to prepare for the inauguration.

It occurred to me that Dr. King must be looking down and weeping at the present catastrophe in our nation.

With all we're experiencing these days, I recall that MLK told us that the arc of history bends toward justice. Those words give me hope.

Dr Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, Elijah Cummings, RBG. and so many more I wish were here now.

I think their legacies and teachings bring hope of how we can continue

to bring some light, truth, and peace wherever we may be.

They all always fought in peaceful ways for truth and justice.

Re: Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This country lost a great hero and fighter for justice when Dr. King was assassinated.  I know it was a sad time for me as I always admired him for his belief in non violence and his constant fight for what is right and just.  He is definitely among so many heroes who have fallen but during the time they were here gave so much to make this country a better one.

I thank Dr. King for all he did, am sorry his life was cut short and know his place in history  stands strong and one to be proud of.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Dr. King made history making strides in his quest for equality - "history", just like all history, should not be erased and this notion of 'cancel culture' should be very closely looked at as it cannot or rather should not be selective.
