Halloween Toni Girls

[ Edited ]

IMGP0911.JPGIMGP0926.JPG

@Witchy Woman @EastCoastGal

The Toni girls are back to model their home made Halloween costumes. They are excited for their big Trick or Treat adventure, going out after dark with all the neighborhood children dressed in their costumes.

Our little Witch is wearing a black dress made from vintage organdy, lined with black cotton.

Her black cape is lined with a cute pumpkin print and her hat is made from felt. Her necklace is a little Jack O'Lantern on an orange ribbon. She is holding her little black kitten and a Jack O'Lantern to carry all her treats.

Our Gypsy girls are wearing cotton print peasant blouses and long ruffled matching striped skirts and black shoes. I strung tiny beads to make their necklaces and attached

real sterling silver hoop earrings to their head

scarves, since they don't have pierced ears.

They are carrying their Jack O'Lanterns to be

filled with candies and goodies, on Halloween.

Many of us are probably old enough to remember having home made costumes. That was before costumes were so common in stores. Long before all the costume shops that we have now, living in a city next to Salem, MA, where Halloween has become big business, in recent decades. It really brings in the tourists, every October.

I remember being a ghost, with my costume

being made from a sheet. Many times my mother dressed me as a Gypsy and I remember

how wearing lipstick back then, felt so sticky and uncomfortable to me. My cousin dressed as a Cowboy, which was popular in the 50's.

With brown paper bag costumes, we were Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

When my three girls were little, 3, 4 and 5, I

made three long black capes and got three witch hats for them. They had their plastic Jack O'Lanterns to hold their candy. So cute!

Those black capes were used for many costumes over the years along with a collection

of clothing, wigs, hats and masks, that we kept in the Halloween trunk.

My five children enjoyed creating their own costumes from what we collected. They loved Halloween and going to all the neighbor's houses and Trick or Treating with their friends.

The costumes are perfect, how cute Toni looks in her witch costume!  I love the lining of her cape, her necklace and the hat.  The gypsies are adorable.  I love the colorful customes, also perfectly made.  Their head scarves, earrings and beaded necklaces stand out!!!!  If I were a young girl again with my Toni I would beg my mom to buy these outfits!!!!

The gypsy costumes are close to my heart as I dressed as a gypsy for many years in a row.  My aunt made my costume and I loved it!  Seeing Toni dressed in the Halloween costume I wore gave me a big smile and lots of good memories!  Your work, Enufstff is amazing down to the last detail!!!!

@spiderw   Thank you so much. How wonderful that your aunt made the Gypsy costume for you. We knew how to have fun, even before, video games, tablets and iphones. Simpler times.

I made and sold all those Toni Doll clothes,  years ago, but I still have the pictures in my online files. It was fun creating all the outfits. I tried to find authentic vintage fabrics for the dresses.

I even re-created a few of the dresses that I wore in the 50's. Maybe next May, I'll post the First Communion dress and veil,

based on the one I wore. I hope that it won't be considered "too

religious".

Maybe I'll post one more dress, before the taffeta Christmas

dress.

@Enufstuff I've been quiet too long and just have to tell you your Toni Girls and their outfits are absolutely beautiful.  The fabric and jewelry are proportioned for dolls.  You put so much thought, talent, effort and love into each outfit you make.  Love these Halloween outfits and also love the "apple" dress you posted a little while ago.  You are so talented. Can't wait for your next posting. Thank you.

@coffee drinker   Thank you so much. Did you see "A Day at The Fair" that I posted a few weeks ago? Toni was wearing a red and white gingham check dress and holding her cotton candy.

Next month, I may post another dress, before the taffeta Christmas dress.

These dresses were made years ago and I have the pictures in my online files. I often think that I would like to sew some more.

I just have to feel well enough and my 85 yr. old husband is having hip replacement surgery in a couple of weeks so I'm sure that will keep me busy.

I do have quite a stockpile of fabrics and trims. I just need to get motivated.

Yes, @Enufstuff I did see  the "Fair" pics.  Again, beautiful.  My mom worked in a dress shop (sweat shop" and made most of my clothes, but never, ever made doll clothes.  Too detailed for her.

The very best to you and your husband on his upcoming surgery.  You will be busy. Tell him to do everything the physical therapists ask of him.  It will do so much for his recovery.

@coffee drinker  Thank you, my husband was told that this won't be like the hip replacement that he had about 20 years ago. Back then he was in the hospital a few days and then in rehab for another week.

He will be home the next day, climbing 14 stairs to go into the house and 13 more to the bedroom. He will have no visiting nurse and it seems that he will be on his own after surgery. He went today for pretests and they said the stairs are  "no problem". I'm only a little over 4'10" with a bad shoulder and trying to avoid shoulder and knee surgery, with cortisone shots. I can't do heavy lifting. I hope he has "no problem".

No talk of physical therapy either.

They are talking like it will be "no problem". I'm not convinced.

Plus, he is not an "easy patient". He's difficult and argumentative. I have been through many surgeries with him over the past 32 years. He raises my blood pressure on a good day.
