Re: Hallmark stores closing

We still have 3 stores near us. I will be quite sad if they do decide to close. I have kept many of the cards I have received over the years. In fact, I have a memory box where I put a lot of the cards and love looking at them from time to time.

Our Christmas tree is exclusively decorated with a collection of Hallmark ornaments that I have been collecting since the 80's. Each one elicits a memory of when they were purchased. Many were chosen by my children. This past Christmas we purchased some that my grandson chose.

I continue to send cards and probably always will. May be old fashioned but it's just a tradition that I started many years ago....

I agree with you about sending cards.  I still send them for various occasions (I buy Hallmark cards at the grocery store, or Hallmark store, or order cards from Current)..And  everyone that receives them makes a remark how perfect the sentiment was, or how it made them laugh, or they appreciated a card of encouragement.  To me buying the card and postage stamps and taking the time to mail them, means a whole lot more then someone just sending an email or an online card which is just a push of a button and is sent more as an after thought not requiring much effort just another social media post (something checked off the to do list).......

@Meowingkitty, I agree with you. Keepsake ornaments are now just like like the generic, plastic, mass produced ornaments you can buy at any discount store for way less money. The thrill is gone for me and I've moved away from that look.

I see Hallmark cards at other stores.  About three years ago, Belk had them!

I really appreciated the Hallmark card assortment QVC offered a couple of years ago.

I ordered both the holiday and all occasion collection.  When it came down to price per card, it was an excellent value.

I had hoped that we would see a new assortment over the 2017 holiday season but all that was offered was the same 2016 set for the Christmas season.

I don't have a problem receiving an e-card; it's nice to be thought about no matter the occasion.

It's just not something *I* do.

As far as Hallmark ornaments, my collection through the years has me wondering WHY!!!

Years ago you would see certain series for sale on Ebay; one ornament I had was going for $700 without the box-an important selling point..  LOL  It was the Frosty Friends 1st edition.

I didn't sell it, though.

I haven't checked in a long time but I would suspect that these ornaments have lost their value and interest by collectors.

I stopped going to them ages ago and I do believe a number of them in my region are defunct. To the extent they sold things other than cards, wrap and novelties, I used to enjoy then on occasion, particularly those that offered gifts and nicer decorative objects as opposed to being mostly kitsch.

My local Hallmark is right next to a Dollar Tree! Smiley LOL So people will buy cards at Hallmark and go to Dollar Tree to buy gift wrap and tissue paper and balloons. It's located in a very busy shopping center with a Home Depot, a Shoprite, an Italian restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, so I don't think it's in danger of closing yet. But I agree, they are pricing themselves out. Unless I can find a card in their 99 cent section, I'm getting them at the dollar store. And while they offer very nice collectables, jewerly, and Vera Bradley, nobody I know or in my family has a want or need for it.

@Spurt, no I haven't seen the new Heritage line. I didn't pay much attention to Hallmark's ornament selection this year, actually this was the first year that I didn't even go into the store.

I will definitely have to take a look at the Heritage line this upcoming Christmas season. Thanks for the info. 😊
