By a joint resolution approved 12/18/2001, (Public Law 107-89)

has designated September 11th of each year as "Patriot Day"

which also directs the flags be lowered to half-staff for

the entire day on September 11th. 

Additionally, a moment of silence is observed to correspond
with the attacks, beginning at 8:46 AM (EDT),
the time the first plane, American Airlines Flight 11,
struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center
on September 11, 2001.

@sidsmom   I work at a college, and remember the moment well.  Unfortunately, many of our students weren't even born (high school students can attend college for free in Ohio), and many others were too young to remember it.
