@goldensrbest

Isn't Stevia a sugar substitute?  I must look into this.  Thanks!     Yes, it is , i came across this today.

@LilacTree ... I started losing hair in my 40s.  Since then, I've kept it shorter... chin to shoulder length.  Because it's thin and fragile, I never style it up.  I feel that both the weight of extra length and pulling it back and securing it, put extra stress on it that can contribute to hair loss.

Please post a pic of your new do!

I just wanted to say that I loved the shorter, layered cut you had in your previous avatar pic!Heart

@KingstonsMom

That was also long hair, IG, just worn up.  I can't remember when I had short hair, but I do remember that it was still dark then and I've been going white since I was in my early sixties.  Used to dye what I called my "skunk stripe."  When I retired, I did cut it shorter to let the white grow in and haven't changed it since.

I can't put anything on my scalp because the RA has made it chronically sore, so even if I didn't like it being white I wouldn't be able to do anything about it.  So no dyes, no perms, even some shampoos are no-no.  I can only use Dove.

I am in the process of the stripe stage.

I've got short, dark hair with lots of silver in it and was lightening it a shade or two lighter so the silver wasn't as noticeable.

Last time I went to have it cut, I said no more to the lightening - I was tired of it and sitting there for over an hour - it was a freeing moment!

Two more hair cuts and it should be all be gone.

I did the same with gel manicures.  Just looked down at my hands one day and said to myself, wow, that's really ugly - even though it was a plain french manicure - had it all taken off about 5 years ago and have never gone back.

@CelticCrafter

I had acrylic nails for a long time too.  When I look back at some of the photos we took during those days and see my hands and those long, bright red nails, I cringe!  I stopped doing it when I retired and it took a long time for my nails to recover.  I sometimes polish them with very light colors if I am going out somewhere, but I haven't even done that in quite some time.  They grow very fast (hair and nails grow at the same rate on each individual) so I am always cutting them down and filing them.  It's too hard with the way my hands are now.

I guess the eighties and nineties were the decades for fake nails, something we will look back on and say, eww! I can't believe I did that!  A lot of ladies still have them done, but they are not as long and garish as they used to be.

Cut mine every 6 wks.  Long hair especially when we're older turns grey and ages you. Who wants to maintain something that makes you look haggard and tired.

Congrats !

@SharkE   That statement is questionable.  I have white/ grey hair and it is long.  It does not age me at all and I get complements on it all the time.. even from young gals 20 years old who say they wish they had my color.  It might age you, but not everyone. I do not look haggard or tired at all. In fact for 61 people tell me how young I look even with my white hair.

@SeaMaiden  I agree that this is such a broad statement.  I am 63 with long white hair.  I get compliments all the time on my hair. ( more than I ever received when I was coloring it )  Many are from young people in their 20's and 30's.  They tell me to own it and rock it LOL !  I also get compliments from people my age, both men and women.  Usually they will say that not everyone can carry off white hair.  I think the style and your attitude play a big part.

@LilacTree My hair is falling out too. I'm very tempted to go for an ultra short cut, but I'm still too chicken. Going to the length you talked about will help a lot. One reason I don't want to go super short is having to wash my hair everyday. I go every other day now, sometimes two if I'm not really doing anything special. I wear it pulled up a lot.

Maybe you could try something like Judi Dench. My Mom's hairstyle is similar to hers.

Shoulder length is as far as I will go.  Not for me.  Many older woman look good in this style, I agree.  Thank you for the suggestion though.

@SaRina. Try taking down the shine w/ some powder shampoo. Put a little bit in & shake it out before wearing.
