I had a stereotactic breast biopsy (my choice) about ten years ago for a suspicious looking area on my right breast. The findings were "atypical cells" and the recommendation was to have the cells removed. A lumpectomy without the lump. Which I had done ASAP. There were no follow up meds to take but I did have to go to the hospital for follow up mammograms 6 months later and for a year or two after instead of going to the women's health center.
If I had to do it all over again I would have opted with the surgical biopsy instead of having the stereotactic done because I think things would have moved along a bit faster. I am not sure if the surgeon would have just removed the cells and that would have elimanated having to go in a second time.
I go for my mammo faithfully every year and knock wood, all has been well. I know this can be very scary but we are women and we are strong and we deal with things as they should be dealt with! Hang in there--Karen

I had a stereotactic breast biopsy about 20 years ago for a spot that showed up in my two mammograms. Laying on the high table on my stomach with my breast hanging through the hole in the table and the doctor sitting on a stool below made me think of a cow ready to be milked 😳 😁. It ended up being a calcium deposit and they did put a marker in there to mark the spot. I have not had anything else show up since then. Sending good vibes your way that your biopsy turns out well too!

@KKJ I had the needle biopsy done and marker placed several years ago. It turned out fine. I've had 3 d mamagrams yearly since, & one yesterday that showed nothing suspicious.
I hope yours turns out fine also!

My sister had additional images and an ultrasound. Then a biopsy was needed. We were scared. Results came back negative. Several years later my other sister went through the same process but her biopsy was positive. She had radiation and takes estrogen blocking meds. She very recently had more follow-up blood tests, mammogram, and a physical which will be done every six months. No signs of cancer. I'm praying for your test to be negative. Both of my sisters are doing great.

I've had two. One several years that was benign but we removed it anyway because it was pretty big. Basically that one was a pile of glop. Then last December I had one for something suspicious about the size of the tip of my pinky finger. That one was a benign cyst also. Worst part is the ultrasound and waiting. She kept going over and over it while pressing on my boob to find it because it was so small. As soon as the doctor inserted the needle it popped and she knew it was a cyst. You will probably bruise a bit.

They said I will be having a stereotactic biopsy. Does anyone know why this is done as opposed to the regular biopsy?

I forgot to tell you that many years ago I had to go back for more images and an ultrasound. Terrified. Nothing further was indicated. I still go to the same place for my yearly mammograms but they now have the 3-D equipment. It's far less uncomfortable and captures even clearer images. The on-site radiologist reads the mamo and gives you the results. Takes a little more time but worth waiting. They send the results to your doctor and mine has me come in for the physical part. He always asks me if I do self-exams. I think something can show-up that wasn't there a week ago so I do it. Again, I'm sending you prayer.
