Re: HSN has changed shipping policy

I rarely spend $75 at HSN. So the policy didn't matter to me.

@Wiskota @sunshine45  What's funny / interesting is that so many here were complaining about itwhen it was an active offer.  The complaint was that mostly they didn't want to have to make a large purchase every time they shopped and paying 5.50 or so for shipping for one relatively inexpensive item was a reason for them not to purchase at all.  So, who knows what the right answer is.  Shipping costs are also high for companies so they have to factor it into their costs somewhere.  Maybe the hsn should have kept the 75+ free ship but lowered shipping on lesser, lightweight purchases. ?

@moonandthestars I'm one of those that complained and I still feel that way.  I'm fine with the shipping as it is.  I won't be pushed to buy more to get better shipping.  However, I'm sure I'm not their target shopper, but I'm also not interested in subsidizing their target shopper.

Re: HSN has changed shipping policy

@Wiskota I think the increase was bound to happen.  Every company of any kind from which I am still accepting emails is looking for new customers.

I guess because I hadn't purchased anything from HSN for at least 15 years, I was a new customer a few weeks back when I discarded a large, heav

@Icegoddess I completely understand both sides of this.  Always interesting tho to hear people being unhappy that something is implemented and then others unhappy when the very same thing is discontinued.  I see this is a tricky path for retailers to navigate.

Re: HSN has changed shipping policy

IMO, all the shopping channels should have a minimum for free shipping whether it's $50, $75 or whatever but the customer should not have to wait for a "free shipping" day.  Other retailers do it, I don't see why the shopping channels don't and one of the reasons I don't shop from TV very often.

And again, the cost of shipping/handling is already factored into the price of the item so it is pure profit for all of them.

@Shelbelle Well, I guess we are cancelling each other out. I made $75 purchases 2-3 times a month. It worked fantastic for me. Since that policy was discontinued I have not made one purchase. I have several items sitting in my basket now but, without the free shipping on all my items I make no purchase.

The policy with Free Shipping worked really well for me.

Last Sat HSN had a total free shipping day, that is the time for you to place your orders, they will have more of them I am sure.  I buy lots of single beauty items that always had free shipping, once that stopped I was done, and I am sure those vendors had a huge drop in sales and were not happy.  No matter what they do they will never please everyone.

Re: HSN has changed shipping policy

I usually buy on QVC when there is free shipping.  If I really want something, my size, length, color, I will pay the 3.50 or 5.50.  I mailed three very small boxes at Christmas for friends, maybe  1-1.5 pounds each.  It was $33 something at the post office.   I couldn’t believe it.  Beauty items, many, many times, cheaper pricing and free shipping on EBay.  Q does have some great beauty bundles though.

It gave me a reality check that the 5.50 wasn’t the end of the world in shipping at the Q.  Yes, of course we would rather have it for no shipping, but it’s not sticker shock like the PO.

Re: HSN has changed shipping policy

@ShelbelleUnfortunately, or I guess maybe fortunately, one Free Shipping day a month or so does not entice me to shop as much. I do take advantage of it when needed but when I need something, or want something, and it's not free shipping on HSN, I will just shop elsewhere for a similar item or just not purchase it.

You are correct, they can never make ALL happy. But again, they made a lot more sales from me with the FS at $75. Most online retailers that I shop with all offer the same kind of incentive, minimum order receives free shipping.

So, the bottom line, is it more profitable for them to make a $75+ sale and they pay full shipping, or is it more profitable for an individual like yourself to make a beauty purchase and get free ship, or a person that purchases one item and the customer pays $5.50 or so for shipping? They'll do whats the most profitable. If they do not return to the policy of a minimum order receives FS then the sales weren't good enough. Time will tell.
