Then he went on to say 'risky behavior' was 'needles and such'....implying unprotected sex was not a risky behavior in Charlie Sheen world.

This one 4-minute interview set back HIV/AID public education efforts about, oh....30 years.

Any bets Charlie Sheen will eventually say he got it 'from a dirty toilet seat?"

Wow.
Simply Wow.

I couldn't care less he has this.
I couldn't care less how he got it.
Also....taking the emotion out of it,
I couldn't care less SHAME brought him here instead of anything else.

BUT, what I DO care is....he had an amazing opportunity to educate the public. He's the 'new face' of HIV/AIDS...but he wasted it in a 4-minute public forum interview with his misguided ignorance. Idiot. And I also look cockeyed at The Today Show for airing this....knowing CS would give false information.

Thoughts?

ETA:  My gut tells me all these 'shake-downs' are about another secret he has.  How did he contract the virus?  Wasn't needles, wasn't women...it was the other gender.   It took 4 years for this story to come out....it'll probably be another 4 years before THAT story comes out.

@sidsmom, re your ETA. Honestly, if it was that he would have led with it because it would have at least garnered him some sympathy. At least from one side.

What he said was he did not use needles.  It was also stated that he does not have the virus in his blood hence the reason for the unprotected sex and stating that the 2 women agreed to it and are under the care of his doctor.  Perhaps they too contracted HIV and are being treated.  He was asked how he got HIV and he said he was not entirely sure.... translation =  he knows and feels it's no ones business.

@MaggieMack

You're probably right.  Unfortunately, the adoring public has a short memory.    If people have a hard time accepting the recipient of several 'courage' awards this year...just wait.  He might be our new face of 'courage' for next year's award shows.

I have to be honest that I did not see the complete interview as they chopped it up but the segment that really bothered me was with his doctor.  What a wasted opportunity that was as I was left with more questions than answers and none of the in-depth and up to date knowledge he could have provided as it's been a while since a celeb had to come out with this information.

Since HIV isn't the death sentence it used to be, I think we have relaxed our opinion on the whole thing but the truth is if untreated it can still kill someone (I believe and please correct me if I am wrong).

I was extremely disappointed in the doctor's segment and I think I recognized him from some other celebrity gab fest so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised.

In regards to the many comments about his partners possibly being exposed

to HIV, what about "Nobody can tell us what to do with our own bodies, reproductive organs, etc."?  It was up to the people he was with to take responsibilty regarding unprotected s*x.  They are responsible for themselves.  It's their own behavior that exposed them to it.  I've known that since 9th grade Health Class, only back then it was regarding other STDs, not HIV or AIDS.

The ones to feel sorry for are the spouses who get HIV/AIDS from a spouse who has been unfaithful.

CS is mentally ill, with addictions, and I don't feel, in control of himself.  A mixed up mess, and it's a shame.  It's too bad.

@Anniecamp. ITA!  I had a client who's husband (soon to be ex) was an IV drug user. She became positive from him, and didn't learn so until after she was pregnant with her second child.   This was in the early 90's and still so little was known about the virus. She was so worried that her baby girl would be positive as well.....after two long years of waiting her girl tested negative.....just destroys families......

With the life decisions he has made, and his boasting about sleeping with so many women, I don't doubt that he doesn't know how he got it. You can tell his drug and alcohol abuse have affected his mental state. He always seems very "off." Regardless, it's sad he has the disease. Did he bring it on himself with his lifestyle? Yes. But does he have a lot of demons and issues? Yes to that, too.
