What I find unacceptable is that the pilot had a flight simulator in his residence. Was he taking in clients? That could mean someone or someones were training for familiarity to perform a hijacking. It's very unsettling.

I heard one pilot interviewed in the first couple of days that said this isn't unusual.

Good grief.

Hijacking was my assumption all along. It's the only thing that makes sense, especially in that part of the world. Whether confirmed or denied, I think the plane was flat out stolen.

I agree. What is the motive? No one has claimed responsibility.

My guess would be they either wanted something specific or someone specific on board, or the hijackers were a disorganized small group of renegades, rather than a larger, organized cell with a specific mission, who now either no longer exist (along with the rest of the plane, crew and passengers) or don't know what their next step needs to be...

I don't believe anyone knows what happened.

We know a little more than what was layed out a week ago. We know the plane was airborne at least 4 hours after the last transmission from the pilot. It has also been reported that the turn the plane took (which was in direct opposition to their scheduled flight plan) could not be engineered by someone who is not an experienced pilot, hence the searches in his residence and the co-pilot as well.

It's routine to investigate the crew at a time like this. It's like looking at the husband first when the wife is murdered. As for the flight simulator, yes, many pilots and flying enthusiasts have them in their homes. One of the pilots is reported to have also owned several light aircraft and his family says he loved flight so much.

Why "good grief"?

I've also heard this question asked and pilots have said that flying is their passion as well as what they do for a living, so having flight simulators at home is nothing unusual or odd or sinister.

Just a guess, of course, but I think whoever did this knew a lot more than we think. The ACARS indicated the plane ascended to 45,000 ft. which would have made oxygen too thin in the passenger cabin for survival. There would have been indefinite oxygen in the cockpit and flight attendants would have had some type of oxygen tanks. The "bad guys" would have made sure they had enough for themselves. Then the plane descended to 23,000 ft. which is the level which is normally not monitored by radar until aircraft reach much lower levels. At that level they probably have flown undetected to their destination, wherever that was. But why? It was estimated that they had a total of fuel for 7 hours. But who knows if all of this is true.

I had/have a feeling (from the beginning) that the plane and passengers were taken to a hidden (or other) airport. Hopefully they are well, and possible 'negotiations' are being made right now. You know, the exchange of people, etc. (I recently saw a retro Magnum PI where two people (one was our POW) were secretly exchanged.) I haven't read the latest news or this thread's posts yet.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Remember....."ALL RIGHT, GOOD NIGHT" were the last words heard from this plane.
