Have you seen any of the new HGTV Tiny Houses shows? I can see the benefit for the single or couple who want to move regularly but the family of six seemed a disaster in the making.

I watched a few episodes yesterday. Very interesting and much better than the regular house hunters shows where idiotic twentysomethings demand dream homes. I saw the family of six who wanted a home that was no more than 600 ft.²

Yes...I have always been interested in Tiny Homes...of any sort...but that couple drove me bats. I mean 6 people in 400 sq. ft?? The husband/father romanticized everything. My husband was dumbfounded by some of the things he was willing to put his family through.

Yes and at this point I would like a tiny house ........ One level, one bedroom one bath with a covered porch....... tired of cleaning...........many people could use smaller homes and I am one of those.......

The other two that I watched, the fire-woman and the couple who built their own made sense. Four children have a lot of stuff, the clothing alone will take up all the storage and then some.

I saw some of that yesterday. To each his/her own, but I can't imagine living in what looks like a glorified garden shed from the Home Depot.

I watched it. Those parents of 4 are nuts. I'm sorry, but those poor kids. Don't get me wrong, I also don't agree with keeping up with everyone else and giving your kids everything or just trying to make their life comfortable, but I really think those people needed a reality check. The firewoman seemed to have a healthy perspective, IMO. Didn't watch the last episode. I was maxed out on all of it.

My personal opinion - it's all hype and trendiness. I question if those going for the ""tiny"" house concept really and truly live full time in them.

I live in a small, well-designed home and love it. Most of the homes on the show are just too small, verging on silly, and I've quit watching for that reason.

I can't imagine a family of six living in a tiny house. There's a show on FYI called Tiny House Nation. They do a reality check for people considering a tiny house. They show couples how much their closets are going to hold, how you can't go upstairs to get away from your spouse when you have a fight. One family didn't have a washing machine. They have this thing that looks like a bucket with a handle! They wash clothes daily and hang them on a line to dry. Composting toilet as well. My first apartment was 478 square feet. I'm very happy with my 1200 sq feet home.
