I've had Midnight for 14 years and he isn't declawed. Lately he has been clawing on my new Royal Palace rugs. I ended up taking the rugs up. He only does this at night right after I go to bed and early in the morning to get me up for work (way to early to get up). If I ignore him, he will eventually stop, but by that time the rugs will be ruined. I have carpeting in the livingroom and he never claws on it.
He has a scratching mat that he used for awhile, but doesn't want anything to do with it. I know he is doing this to get my attention.
Any idea what to do? At his age, I wouldn't think about declawing.
