@ShowMeOh hey I got carried away on last post and forgot to mention how cool it is that you are a belleek collector. I have never seen a belleek castle lamp, I bet that is really nice. I liked the castle canister they had here on qvc but it is on waitlist. Heck that may become available as is, who knows I will keep looking for it. I really like belleek also and have some pieces but I would not consider myself a collector yet, just appreciate good quality. I am happy for you that you got an belleek christmas, just show you have people around you that love you..

@DarlingDino......metastatic melanoma is skin cancer and attaches to other parts of the body, such as lungs, kidneys, etc. Mine was detected after a mammogram was done......a lymph node under my right arm that had popped up over night. It was at the very edge of the mammogram.......had quite a lengthy biopsy done on it, and also have a tumor on my back which has gotten much much smaller, and a spot on my right lung. The treatment I get is OPDIVO.....it is an immune treatment via IV infusion.....for which I have a port. Have not had to have any surgery or radiation......thank goodness. The growth on my back is shrinking, as well as the lymph node is a lot smaller. That is the reason for the full body Pet scan. Need to keep track of the shrinkage or if any other places it may travel to. The spot on my lung is gone.....
My biggest complaint is being tired all the time.....but that goes with these treatments. My eyes and hearing have been affected, as well as not wanting to eat the food I fix.....right after it has been cooked. Am so glad I have a micro. Am so glad the grocery store has such a good deli....
This OPDIVO is a very potent treatment with quite a few side affects...... My oncologist is so pleased with how I am doing. Of all the patients he has had on this, I am on it the longest. Some of the others just haven't been able to take it. This is due to problems with kidneys and lungs, etc. I really have no choice with what they can have me take.....it's either this are the alternative, for which I'm not ready for. I will be 77 in May.....and still have some things I want to accomplish.
Way back when......I was one of those young girls that had to use baby oil and a squirt bottle of water when I was out in the sun. Sure wish I would have known then what I know now about the sun......
I do use a cane when I go out......and can't do the basement steps any more. Also, don't have enough energy to clean my apartment. So, I have Visiting Angels come do the laundry, and have a team of girls that come to clean.....this is every other week.
I do just about everything else for myself. Grocery shop....using a riding cart..... Drive my self to and from treatments and doctor's visits, except for when I go the retina specialist. He dilates my eyes every visit.
Ok, that's the skinny of the cancer.

Don't be afraid to use the casserole dish in the oven. It is ok...... The castle lamp is beautiful......it is taller and narrower than the canister, and the shade is very nice too.
As is is a good way to go, but just check it carefully when you get it.
Yes, my sister loves me and spoils me rotten. And, I love her too. She lives 1000 miles away from me. I know she is wanting to come see me again soon.
Ok dear.....it is time for me to eat some supper. Am getting a little hungry now. Have a great rest of your evening.

@ShowMeHello, I just got done reading your replys and wow you are a very strong lady to be handling everything life has put your way. And to be in such good spirits instead of reacting with hate and bitterness, says a lot about the kind of person you are. Must be alot of love within your heart. It is a blessing that the cancer is gone from your heart and I believe that if we accept humbly what comes our way that it is not unnoticed by God and then the blessing will come. The people who cannot accept unfortunate things, and react with anger, I believe suffer more here. So keep filling your space with love and more love will come your way.
I dont know a whole lot of what is like to take treatments for cancer. But it does sound like you cook, and that is good that you can still do that. I love to cook. I feel sorry for you that you cant clean your appartment cause i really love cleaning, yeah I know I am weird!!! Kinda OCD when it comes to cleaning but I do enjoy it really. I am glad you have help with getting that done, but wow that would be hard for me to give up, I like decorating and cleaning my space, makes me feel good.
Do you have to wear the port all the time? So you have this medicine going into your body all the time? If so that means you dont ever get a break from the side effects. Wow that would be something. If it was only every couple months that would be easier to deal with, but all the time would be harder. You said you dont want the alternative, what is the alternative?
I think you will get to accomplish all the things you still want to do and I think you are a very positive person and it is very good to keep wanting to accomplish more. I dont think it ever good to give up on wanting to do something. We should have a list of things and be trying to achive them until our last day.
As far as the sun thing, while I was very young my mom was too over protective so we were not out side much, so I have not had alot of sun exposure while young. When I started working and got interested in boys and dating, I did the tanning bed thing, but then again not too much.
I am fair skinned, but then am into horses, so I have been riding since I was a teenager and been in the sun too much because of horse shows!! So I do think about the skin cancer thing because of my face, ears, neck and arms being exposed while riding or showing.
That is a scary thing. I like josie maran tanning oil now, I try to protect myself, but I still have a horse and love hiking outdoors and garderning and well I love the sun, so now I do use sunscreen, but hate that!!! I am 48 now.
I think you are lucky to have such a wonderful sister, that loves you!! I have one sister and we do not get along, long story but she is not nice at all
I had a brother. but he died of a drug overdose, miss he soooo much, he was wonderful. My dad died in 1996, he was 72 yrs old. My mom is 87 and is in a home. I am gonna do another post cause this one is getting too long

@ShowMeOk Back to Ireland, after my last post when I told you I bought the picture of a castle and the belleek rose pitcher, my husband took over the tv so off went the irish programming. Anyway he ate the last of the irish stew I made, it was sooo good, and I asked him if he would want more and he said yes, so while he had the tv, I went to walmart to buy more ingrediants and I just started to make more stew.. It is in the oven now and I have yet to add the vegetables but I am excited to be making more Irish stew again, I could celebrate st patricks day for a week, I just love it that much. Any way he had to go and get more horse feed and while he out he bought a pistal cross bow and is busy putting that thing together, so guess what, yeah you guessed it I have irish back on!!!! Yes, I am crazy but I love it... So now I have irish stew in the oven and irish shows back on tv...
Have you seen the movie about michael collins? I have not seen it and do want to see it. It is not available on netflix. I am surprised Netflix did not put anything on for st patricks day.
Any way while he is busy with his new toy I am gonna cut veg for the stew and continue watching irish on qvc.

@DarlingDino......Thanks for your kind words. I do try to be a good person......but sometimes I just have to let go and let the steam out. Have more good days than bad ones though.
About the treatments. I was having the treatments put in a vein in my hand or between where my arm bends....but my veins were getting to the point where they were afraid they would collapse on me and be no good if they were ever needed. So, they surgically inserted a port under the surface of the skin in my right chest.......there's a small tube connected to the port. Before each treatment they flush the port out and once the treatment is over, they flush it again. They scrub the port area very well and then insert the needle into the port. It does hurt a little, and the nurses tell us to take a deep breath while inserting it. Into the little tube they have, that is where the IV needle is inserted so it can drip into my system. It takes 1 hour for this procedure. Almost all the patients in the treatment room have a port. If a patient is only going to have like 6 treatments, they don't do the port thing......
By the time the IV is done, you know you have had the treatment because of the way you feel. Sometimes I feel like I just can't walk to get get the valet to get my car. But, I make it. Thank goodness I have good comfy seats in my car. Makes it a lot easier on the ride.
Once home, all I want to do is take a nap. There are some days when I think I want a cup of coffee, get it, and then am asleep before I even drink it.
Nourishment is very important when undergoing things like this. Cooking is very difficult for me, and I really do love to cook too...... I make things like a 3 hour stew in the oven, baked chicken breasts with potatoes and onion, pork chops smothered in diced tomatoes, tuna casserole, and chicken noodle soup and beef, barley and vegetable soups. Plus I have some of the nicest neighbors that provide some of my meals for me too. Never go hungry......and it doen't take much to fill me up.
Really, I am a very blessed person.......more than I think I deserve.
Growing up my sister and I were not close at all. Up until the last few years, we only tolerated each other, but now we are closer than we have ever been. Am very happy things turned around for us. Know she is too.

This is a picture of SHOWME's Beleek "Castle" lamp. I remember when the Q presented it years ago. It is beautiful.

@DarlingDino......bet your whole house is smelling good about now.
Right now I am watching WORLD on PBS channel. Like their programs. The program on now is about families that are fearing deportation.
I usually go to bed pretty early because I need my rest. Do lead a pretty quiet life.......
Hope you enjoy the rest of your night.
