As far as I know, these are not series of movies (Lacey may have been in one series of wedding movies for Hallmark though.)  But as far as I know, most all are stand alone movies.

My DH likes to watch them.  I get a bit tired of them because there are the same plot points over and over again, and everything is perfect at the end.  That is not a true representation of life, and I guess that is the point.

Yes it was a former casting director who filed the suit.  And frankly, it sounds like she may have been too old to do her job effectively.  Companies should not be required to keep people in their employment forever.  At some point, you ARE too old to keep working efficiently, and that age is different for everyone.

@Puppy Lips   same here my DH  loves the Christmas Hallmark movies !   I will watch one occasionally, but the storylines as you stated are the same story lines over and over and in the end all is perfect !   I don't care for Lacey so won't watch her movies which are about every other one.   I love the movies and series with Allison Sweeney .

@Kitty Galore I was just watching the new Alison Sweeney Christmas movie This Time Eaxh Year. It was different than typical Hallmark movies as it took on a more serious issue, addiction.

Puppy Lips:  'You know', you do have a point.

If the role calls for a young-ish character / actor, then hire from that age group.

I'm fairly sure that plots that have been written about younger characters had casting calls asking for younger actors.

Some story lines simply call for younger aged actors.

And vice-versa.

Younger aged,  middle aged, older aged, and everything in-between.

Older actors can play the younger actors' mothers / fathers / aunts, uncles, relatives, friends, etc.

Well, that's what I'm thinking right now.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

That is terrible.  English shows use a lot of older actors and actresses and their shows are so much better than ours.  At least the ones I watch do.  Especially Midsomer Murders and their shows are A1 in my opinion.  Also, look at the success of Murder She Wrote.  Older leading lady and a lot of older stars.

For some reason USA films seem to think they need thin, young women running around in dressy outfits with 4 inch heels.  They could be Canadian films though.

I should add that I only watch Hallmark Mystery Channel and not the Hallmark Channel.

It's not just the Neilsens ratings, but viewership is carefully tracked with focus groups, among other things.

American audiences prefer actors that are younger and attractive.

Many actors are (or aren't hired) based on physical beauty and less on talent.

It's not an easy industry to do well in, even if extremely talented.

Re: HALLMARK LAWSUIT

[ Edited ]

Holly posts pictures and video of her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show (with husband) captioned Not bad for an OLD gal! in a jab at Hallmark.

I liked Holly's Morning Show Mysteries movie series. I would have liked to see more of them.

Looking at what's populating most of what's being put out in recent years, then, it appears casting directors are seriously missing the boat... Seems the actors of choice these days, are, overall, extremely average, at best, both in terms of overall looks and in terms of talent...  Smiley Wink

From what little I’ve seen on Hallmark in recent years - the new movies - they can’t act. 🤣 At least most of the older actors have some abilities. Aren’t quite a few former soap actors?

Hallmark has changed in the past few years.  Quite a few of their storylines are something I don't enjoy watching.  Not a judgemental person.  I just have no interest in that in a movie.

This may be a reason for what is happening.  Give me the old Hallmark feel-good Christmas movies anyday.  Some of these newer actresses can hardly act.

My opinion and I'm entitled to it.

I respect your opinions, but here i really don't know what you're talking about.  "No interest in that in a movie"?

Uh, okay.

I suspect it's hard to draw in an audience ... and the important advertisers ..... in just any old G-Rated movie.  I don't find Hallmark to be interesting, but that's what I'm getting from the comments.   All the movies I've tried to watch seem like re-runs of something I've already seen.
