Don't see how discrimination comes into play. If the role is written for a thirty year old, you'd think the casting people would fill it with someone roughly that age. As actors age, they can take on the roles of the aunts, uncles and grandparents.

The younger much less experienced actors will work for less money and that could be a big incentive for Hallmark to hire them.

Yes, but they're unwatchable. Poor chemistry and just not good acting.

Re: HALLMARK LAWSUIT

[ Edited ]

This is one of those stories that has really, really been distorted and misrepresented by the popular press.

I have seen numerous major media headlines implying that the actresses mentioned have sued Hallmark for age discrimination,  which of course is not the case.

Some posters continue to believe that the actors have filed the complaint.  Unbelievable.

In fact, the bulk of the Wrongful Termination complaint by a casting director is based upon the plaintiff's disabilities.

The age related cause of actions are just a small piece of the claim.

Of course, Holly and Lacey made for highly juicy headlines and copy,  which is what many run with and choose to believe.

(Having read the complaint, I think the plaintiff has great grounds, having been treated horribly due to her disabilities, according to her.  Just my assessment of course.)

It's good fodder for forum and internet chatter however!  Very, very few read beyond the scandalous headlines about anything.

Every movie on Hallmark is the same, just different actors. Using younger or older actors doesn't mean much to the movies.

If I was 60 and they quit using me because of my age, I'd want to sue too.

I was subjected to horrible age discrimination and harassment starting at age 61. The stories would curl your hair. Within 6 months of retiring at 62 (when my pension was 100%), everyone in the division who was over 60 retired or had been let go.

Age discrimination happens every day in the real world. Some of it is because long-time workers make more than new employees. Employers know how to skirt the laws. HR protects the company, not employees.

Besides, every Hallmark movie is the same, just different actors or locations. I don't think age should matter.

I’m not a fan of Hallmark movies. Perhaps, the issue isn’t aging actors but maybe why aren’t more stories written about older people?

I feel that in the entertainment business, the person who best fits the role description or story should be hired.

That is terrible.  English shows use a lot of older actors and actresses and their shows are so much better than ours.  At least the ones I watch do.  Especially Midsomer Murders and their shows are A1 in my opinion.  Also, look at the success of Murder She Wrote.  Older leading lady and a lot of older stars.

For some reason USA films seem to think they need thin, young women running around in dressy outfits with 4 inch heels.  They could be Canadian films though.

I should add that I only watch Hallmark Mystery Channel and not the Hallmark Channel.
