There's not a lot that government can do. Those shooting people are breaking the law. Anyone who believes they'd obey a gun law when they don't obey the laws against shooting people may be a bit naive. The results from cities/states with strict gun control measures make it clear the offenders won't stop because of a law. Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the country and also has some of the most shootings in the country.

The black market for guns now is thriving. Ironically due to the overhead costs of running a gun store (insurance, compliance with government rules and regulations, etc.) in some/many cases, the black market price for a gun is lower than you could buy the same gun in a licensed gun store.

Even if guns were completely banned, they're not hard to manufacture. Guns have been made since the 1400s. Modern technology makes it pretty easy for someone with a small shop to churn out multiple weapons a day.

Until people respect the laws or are held accountable for breaking the law, gun deaths will occur. It's truly not a gun issue as much as a lawlessness/lack of respect for the law issue. I haven't checked it lately, but the last I checked the average prison time served for murder was 71 months. That's not all that long. And that's the average. Many serve even less time for murder.

Until people respect LIFE, gun deaths will occur.

It IS a gun issue.

People WITHOUT GUNS do NOT SHOOT people.

I despair of the slippery slope theory.

Re: Gunshot Wound First Aid Classes for 8-18 Year-Olds

There have been 147 mass shootings this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as when four or more people have been shot or killed, not including the shooter.

The U.S. was wracked by a record high 610 mass shootings in 2020, the most of any year since the organization began tracking the number in 2014.

This year, the U.S. is on pace to have 511 mass shootings—more than any year between 2014 and 2019—though mass shootings are historically more likely to occur during the latter half of the year, meaning the rate could increase.

How sad that we have come to this.

Now in my "great" state of Texas, starting in September everyone will be able to carry handguns without a permit.  I just don't understand.

@QVCPhobe

While I am a legal gun advocate, I do not agree with anyone being legally able to carry one without a permit and training. In their use and maintenance.

I do read, and that includes the gun deaths, by state, and in our country. Your interpretation of "Mass Shootings", is specifically what number?

I have told you I read and am well aware of the statistics on this topic. Now your number please!

I quoted the numbers.  Did you read what I wrote.  What I pulled from the articles I read were dated April, May 2021.  I won't be linking anything here.

Find your favorite search engine and search with the parameters I did.  "Mass Killings in the USA" and YOU can read it like I did.

The vast percentage of Americans favor background checks and closing the gun show loophole. Yet nothing can get through Congress.. The NRA  was not formed to benefit sportsmen or other gunowners. It was formed by gun manufacturers to sell more guns. Their lobbying efforts made sure gun laws were impossible because of the cash given to office holders. The head of the group is in trouble with the law for siphoning funds to pay for expensive suits and lavish vacations. Wake up and see what the mass murders are doing to our country.

I wonder what psychological trauma this program causes an 8 year old.

Only if a child doesn't want to participate and the parents force them to.

From what I saw on TV, it looked like the younger children had their parents with them.

Do you think it is worse than helplessly watching a classmate bleed to death?
