Gund Sleepy Time Bear

I purchased the Gund Sleepy Time bear as a Christmas gift. It has a tag to pull before I can test to see if it works. I don't want to give a gift that doesn't work, but am hesitant to pull the tab and wear down the batteries. It's a long time until Christmas. What would you do?

I would pull the tab to make sure it works...if it doesn't there is still time to have it replaced...

I can't imagine the battery would wear down with just one pull...and if it does...you have till the end of Jan 2015 to return...

ITA. Would just trying it one time burnout the batteries?

I also might just take the batteries out until time to wrap and gift it. Sometimes, over the period of months, batteries get that weird stuff on them when they are connected and not used for a while. It's some sort of corrosion, I guess.
