I don't care how other people eat , and I don't think many people actually do ,either
I think a lot of people care. It's unsightly to sit with people who are gobbling up food, holding forks like a shovel, and doing other unsightly things. So many people eat like wolves today, especially the young guys.
It is far nicer to sit down at a table where people are polite, thinking of others, talking and enjoying the visit. . .
@Sooner I mean Continental over American style, not eating like a pig

I think the younger generations of British royalty (starting with Diana) are changing the stuffy snobbery and pretense a little at a time.
And that is a good thing!

People who know me probably know I'm pretty big on manners. Having it beat into you as kids makes a huge impression and you never forget.
For almost two months after I broke my left arm this fall I had a lot of trouble eating. My right hand is very, VERY stupid and can't do much of anything except being a 'helper' hand and for scissors.
Eating was such a challenge and I ended up having to use a spoon a lot. I wouldn't do that in front of others so it was a good thing I eat alone 99% of the time. I felt just a smidge of embarrassment, though. For me, eating food that's normally eaten with a fork using a spoon is on the same level as the 'shovel hold' (shudder) with a fork.
Trying to cut food was just - well, you don't even want to see what a hot mess that was. hehe
I'm glad I can eat like a civilized person again. I still have challenges but, except for things with pressure and weight, I can use my left hand quite a bit again.

Who said the Britts are all that polished and knowledgeable? There are plenty of provincial, simple people there. And hey, they drink their beer warm and flat! It tells you everything...

They're not much on ice over there. Me and hubbo had to beg for ice in anything guess it's an American thing.

Gotta remember even Queenie goes to the loo and wipes like the rest of us

I'm American and eat American Style regardless of where I am.
I've seen many people use the Continental Style and I think it looks like you are attacking your food then shoveling it in.
