The two stores I just shopped this morning are fully stocked. There had been a shortage of saltines and oyster crackers at all my stores a bit ago. But no shortage now. Lots of fruits, veggies and produce. I was able to get all items on my list.
Saltines have been out of stock for about 4 months now. Oyster crackers are available in limited amounts. I don't know what the hold up was with the saltines. I had been searching for a certain one for at least 4 months. Just found two the other day.

I'm experiencing hit or miss on product availabillity. To further complicate things, this week my online order for pickup was suddently rescheduled 3 hours before I was to pick it up due to "operations issues." Moved to the next day. Then 3 hours before that rescheduled pickup I was notified order was cancelled due to "operations issues" at the store. Called their corporate office and my order was assigned to another store for pickup.
No one could give me specifics as to what "operations issues" are, but the days leading up to a major holiday are usually very busy so they're losing a LOT of business.

The saltine thing was weird. There were huge sections of shelves in the stores completely empty. All the stores in my area were empty. But now, there seems to be a good supply.
edited to add: I have noticed some empty areas in the pasta section of the stores too. But yesterday they had a good supply.

I went grocery shopping this morning and bought more stock up items than I usually would. Still lots of outages and shortages and if it gets worse, I bought more than I usually do.....veered off my list.
From my actual, much smaller, list of only 15 items they didn't have 5 of the items at all. So I just picked other things. They're 5 items I usually buy. 3 of the items have been out of stock for months. 2 are recent outages.
I stopped and talked to one of the stockers, an older man (like me!). He said he is expecting things to get a lot worse. So I stocked up.
I don't cook, so I mostly did stock up on "like if we had a hurricane or ice storm and couldn't get to the store and had to find something to eat from the pantry".

Wegmans is back to normal. There were empty shelfs when they had problems with the supply chian. Some things they got rid of. Naturally they would pick the items I liked. Always like that no matter the store.

Perhaps my HEB grocery store here in South Texas took extra care to be well stocked for the upcoming long Memorial Day Weekend.....
I got everything on my list this week---including the oft missing for the last few weeks---Purina One Dry Cat Food, frozen veggies and other frozen items, even Ruffles Potato Chips, pasta, and meat selections were plentiful ........😁
And the HEB store my sister shops at is ALWAYS well stocked .....

I would love to find these. They seem to be gone, gone with the wind. I haven't been able to find them in at least 3 months, though my Publix store still has an open space for them (they're a frozen food). Delicious and good calorie amount. Couldn't find them at Kroger either.

I went in Walgreens a few months ago and almost half of every aisle was behind glass with huge chains and padlocks on the contents. I was trying
to buy another ancestry dna kit for someone and the manager said those kits were high on the list of what the thieves wanted. I bought mine and got out of there! In our area, they don't arrest if you steal something less than $900 in value. Thieves know this all too well. We are so fortunate our area has not been hit with the type of violence and criminal behavior seen in other areas. I think the nonstop coverage of it on TV seems to give the go ahead to some may have been afraid to steal for fear of being arrested. We need to return to the "broken window" policy in reducing crime. It has worked before, and it will work again.

I live in Southern California in the Suburbs. There is a ridiculous amount of grocery stores where I can shop within a 5-10 minute drive. This morning I gambled incorrectly and picked the wrong store. (Smile)
I went to a Super Target to shop primarily because it's located in the same shopping center as a store where I had purchased some online items from and needed to pick up.
I was sort of surprised, at the amount of missing items. I can adjust pretty quickly, and I am not afraid of trying store brands.
By no means am I panicking or thinking this is anything close to what we experienced in 2020. But I do believe in being prepared, and I will continue to keep my pantry, deep freezer, toiletries and paper goods well stocked.
