Oh, Thank You for letting us know that!!  I had actually seen that and it just broke my heart (yeah, I'm super sensitive when it comes to animals) and had to try and work on not thinking about it because I was so scared for him.

Re: Great news on the 1-antlered buck

@MamaWick   Whoohoo.  Great news.  I too worried about that young buck.
I'm glad I found your update while looking for deer pictures. Btw we have power!  It only took 3 days.

Re: Great news on the 1-antlered buck

  • Thanx for the update @MamaWick .  I'm serious when I say I could've heaved at the thought of the buck in pain/distress from that abnormality.

I don't know too much about deer/bucks and their antlers.  Didn't know they shed them --thought it was just the velvety part they scratched off.  Have seen pics of trees where they wore the bark away.

I'm one of a very few, I'm sure, that aren't enamored by the sight of deer.  I fear them when I see them on the side/shoulder of the Parkway.  They could cause a catastrophe if they ran out into the lanes.  Life or death in the balance.

But at the same time, of course, I don't want to know that one is in pain.  Or the type of situations where they are shunned from the herd because of abnormalities.  Just want them to live in the woods and be happy!

Re: Great news on the 1-antlered buck

@MamaWick  When I saw the title for this thread, I laughed to myself because it reminds me of a one-antlered buck we have here in my southern Colorado home this season.  No one seems to know what left him with just one antler, but a neighbor nicknamed him "50 cent."  Get it?  Not a full buck...ok, I know... such a goofy joke.  Smiley Very Happy

Anyway, I'm with the others who really enjoy seeing and hearing about the wildlife in your neck of the woods.  It's a bright spot for sure.
