If you have a top-loading washing machine, fill it with ice and pack your bottled water, etc. down in it.

I live in Florida and even though we aren't there thru most of the storm season I do not keep very much in my freezer at a time. Just a few days worth of food at a time. We are retired and have time to go grocery shopping whenever we need to - no reason to have a ton of food frozen and much less to worry about in case of a power outage.

another tip - from earthquake country - fill your bathtub with water - which comes in handy if the power to "flush" goes away through water or power disruption.

We keep a huge filled water dispenser in every bathroom in the linencloset: it's ready if we don't get to fill the tub before the power goes out.

We also keep a large plastic water dispenser filled with water for drinking....we refill it frequently so it's always fresh.

If you hav gallon jugs of water or even small bottles , Put a few gallons in your freezer and freeze them , If your power goes out then these frozen gallons will help keep your frozen food cold , When they thaw you have nice cold water to drink and theis is great if you are in a warm climate.
