Great*Movies* In Honor of "MLK Jr Day" (2023)

As a companion to the wonderful below named, *other* thread:

-->

This above thread has so many wonderful references to, & quotes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr  THANK YOU!

I find Dr King to have been, & still is, such an inspiration for me!

Here's some suggested movies I recommend:

"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" (1967)

      (w/ Sidney Poitier, Katherine Hepburn,

& Spencer Tracy--I think Mr Tracy's last movie)

"Green Book" (2018)

    (w/ Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali)

"The Long Walk Home" (1994)   GREAT

      (w/ Sissy Spacek, Whoopi Goldberg)

"The Vernon Johns Story" (1994)    FANTASIC (not easy to find)

(w/ James Earl Jones, Joe Seneca)

"Lilies of the Field" (1963)

     (w/ Sidney Poitier,

"Places in the Heart" (1984)

(w/ Sally Field, Danny Glover, John Malkovich)

"Glory"  (1989)

(w/ Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman)

"Driving Miss Daisy" (1989)

(w/ Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy, Dan Aykroyd)

"The Help" (2011) (w/ Viola Davis, Emma Stone)

"To Sir, With Love"  (1967)

(w/ Sidney Poitier, Judy Geeson, Lulu)

I recommend ALL of them (altho "Green Book" seems to have an inordinate amt of commercials!!)

This for starters!

  There's many many more!!

YOU might know some such movies you too can recommend?

OOHHHH

"The Vernon Johns Story" (1994) is finally much more widely available, after yrs, pining away for it again & again.  My Cable has it on TUBI (free!)

EXCELLENT movie!  Of course, why not, with James Earl Jones.  heh

I'm going to watch it yet again.  Been awhile.

There's many more great, pertinent movies, for this occasion also.

Feel free to list any you recommend or know of.

HAPPY VIEWING!

@MakeUpMaidn   Please let me add a favorite of mine "42," the Jackie Robinson story.

It is well done and incredibly moving.

I cannot bring myself to watch "Till."  The story is so emotional for me it would be very difficult to view.

Ah yes, Selma.  Just recently saw that.  By the end I was grabbing the tissue box.

I love historical movies and one of my favorites is "Hidden Figures".  Beautiful story of three brave and smart women.  I highly recommend.

Hidden Figures, A Dog’s Purpose, Curse of the Pink Panther & more new ...

WONDERFUL additional movies!  Thank you.

I havent seen "Till" yet.  They say there's nothing gory but we all know the "gory" involved in that horrid incident. I WANT to see it tho, and I will, when I feel strong enough.

Thank you for sharing all.

Any more of these great movies you can share?  Luv'n 'em!
