Re: Grammar -- I rest my case

Home schooling is the biggest mistake in education. The percent of parents that are qualified to do this is small. We are raising a generation of kids with no structure and no basic skills.

Wow, it looks like somebody didn't like seeing the truth.

Now this thread makes no sense at all.... LOL

The "I am better than you" and "I have more education than you" posters are having a ball putting commenters down.

It seems to be unwritten in the community guidelines that all comments must be correct in spelling, grammar, punctuation etc.

People who need to make such pronouncements or who nitpick language errors on a regular basis have lost perspective. The skills are only a means, not an end in and of themselves, to communicate effectively. Demeaning people or embarrassing them is most definitely NOT effective communication; it says more about the person who needs to berate than it does about the person who made a mistake or who doesn't have all the knowledge and rules at his or her fingertip.

I agree, but there are a few on these threads that love to correct everyone and it is getting very annoying.

Part of the problem is, the homeschooling rules vary from state to state. While some are very strict with bookkeeping, records, standardized tests, evaluations from a certified teacher etc. Other states don't even require a phone call to tell the school district you are homeschooling.

Then there are the cyber schools, which are regulated and some districts offer there own. Mostly now because they are losing millions of dollars out of their yearly budget to pay for the students who chose out of district cyber school.

I agree, it takes the right person to do it correctly, and counting chicken eggs out in the barn doesn't always cut it.

Don't give such boorish behavior a second thought. Those who are confident in their own skills don't need to put others down in order to prove it.

Re: Grammar -- I rest my case

the only thing the OP accomplished in starting this thread is to show us that he or she is more concerned with someone's grammar than she is about the meth lab. it's fun to read amazon book reviews as some of the reviewers will exclaim that they could not finish a book due to the numerous typos and bad grammar. these are the reviewers who will give a book a 1 or 2 star rating, admonishing the author to do a better job of editing or to hire an editor. the "typos" and "bad grammar" in many cases are intentional and add character and flavor to a storyline. but, alas, there are some who are "too intelligent" to see the forest for the trees. such a pity, too, because so much of what can be fun and interesting in life is lost on them.

I was listening to a home school mother discussing her curriculum. She said that her kids were learning all about the 52 states. Were two states added that I didn't know about?

In addition to grammar and your example, simple math is a lost art as well. We've all met the cashier that can't make change. I love a new brand of tea my store began stocking. Originally it was $3.69/half gallon and occasionally on sale for 2 for $7. The other day it was $3.29 and I put two in my cart. A woman nearby saw me buying it and said she loved the new tea too but wasn't buying it until it came on sale again for 2 for $7!
