Graduation Gift

So a friend of DH sent us an announcement of daughter's graduation. DH thought it was an invitation. I told him it was just an effort to get us to give her a gift. Well in the end we gave her a nice card enclosing $100 cash. She didn't open it in front of us. That was the end of story. DH is very shocked - I am not. Her father told DH it was very generous. We feel she should have thanked us in some way. A phone call would be enough but we got no thanks of any kind.
