Re: Goodwill throws Donations in Trash!

@wishmoonGoodwill gives some of the items donated to them to the poor, but it also runs second-hand shops where people can buy donated items at reduced prices.  The money generated by the sales pays the salaries of Goodwill staff.  That's not corruption.

It's NOT true, their name is Planet Aid!

@JaneMarple   She's referring to the connection to Tvind. and Teachers Group.

The cult rumour was started by former employees out of the headquarters in Maryland.    They also said a "cult-like" atmosphere, not that it was a cult per se.

Planet Aid has been embroiled in a lot of controversy.

I remember when they started putting up those hideous bins in MA, where PA began in the USA although they had been around internationally since the 70's.

Personally I would not donate to them.

Salvation Army picked up my five year old love seat yesterday. It was in good conditon without any stains or tears. I don't donate items that belong in a dumpster. However, some people do.

Some of the stuff I see in Goodwill stores should have been tossed.

@deeva.  I had a smallish China cabinet with storage underneath and glass doors with a couple shelves. It was only about 3 feet wide and maybe 5 foot tall. The Salvation Army guy came in and started to load it up and looked at the shelves and said pressed wood cannot take this.

then he started looking at the cabinet and said since it’s only the shelves that are pressed I will take it because it is so beautiful.

This is crazy!   I started last year to donate to Salvation Army.

@FlowerBear   I used to donate to Salvation Army, as my Mother did, but now they won't take anything unless furniture comes along with it, so now I donate to a Veteran's organization.

 I stopped donating to Goodwill several years ago due to their unsavory practices. I donate to AmVets, Salvation Army, Purple Hearts, Vietnam Vets, and to the animal rescue groups.

@CJC

Me too! Our Humane Society and local rescue groups all have thrift shops and they're always so appreciative of any donation!

Even if they have to sell an item for a couple of bucks, that's a couple of bucks to help provide for the animals they serve.

Re: Goodwill throws Donations in Trash!

I am sure all the places that take donations get so much stuff that cant even be used. Its disgusting how people dump stuff at these donation containers and stores.  I donate only things that can be used. I never take a bunch of junk and trash that should not be donated!
