@golding76 Two days ago you said that you cancelled your hair appointment, then stood in front of the bathroom mirror and cut your hair. Well, I just wanted you to know that you gave me the courage to do the same thing. It doesn’t look half-bad, thank goodness!

Me too! I got a nice pair of scissors/thinning shears from Amazon and followed my existing hair cut best I could 💇♀️ Thanks @golding76 !

Shoesnbags,
I am so glad that I was able to give you the courage to go ahead. Like you, I found that my resulting "look" was not half-bad, as they say.
In fact, I may continue having my stylist cut my hair as short as I cut it (on purpose) and with a blunt cut. My hair has thinned out from age and meds over the years, and layering, I now think, should be reserved for the back of my crown only.
I always squirm when my stylist cuts my hair, protesting he is taking off too much, etc. Me, I lopped off three inches the other evening and I like it!

Oh, Diane, I am jealous! Thinning shears! LOL
My dear mother used thinning shears til the end of her life. Poor me, I don't need them as life has thinned out my hair.
I am glad I was able to give you the courage to go forward.

I've liked cutting my hair for awhile now.
I like that I can control how much and where and how I cut it, especially after not being impressed with how it was cut at a salon.
I watched them and then went home and watched some videos and thought how hard can this be?!
So, you're right, its not half bad and I never have to leave the house!

I've cut mine for at least 25 years when I had a terrible permanent. My friend is a hairdresser and cut it short. She was always on vacation so she gave me a razor and lessons. I later bought thinning shears and other expensive scissors.
I wear it longer in the winter and experiment with it. It's relaxing to cut it. HA! I've done it three times lately.
I have several boxes of color left. After that since I have to be inside it may grow out natural!
I've saved a lot of money!

I’ve been thinking about having to trim my own hair too. My hair is short and layered. I’m thinking the back will be the hardest.

Mine is short and layered, too. Today I finally put up a mirror that I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond a year ago and had been afraid to tackle attaching it to the wall. It's one of those that moves away from the wall on a hinged arm and allows you to see the back of your head in the larger bathroom mirror. That enabled me to see the back as I was cutting. So I accomplished two things - finally got that mirror attached and cut my own hair as well.
