They just announced Golden Globe nominations.

Joy is nominated for both best picture and lead actress (Jennifer Lawrence).  Go figure.

What did y'all think of the lists overall?   Any snubs?

Re: Golden Globe nominations

This is very interesting, considering the SAG Awards were announced yesterday as well, and the movie got nothing and neither did any of the actors in the movie.......Very interesting! It should be an interesting award season!

Love awards season.

I figured "Joy" would garner some nominations.  I don't think it will be a huge money maker though.

Re: Golden Globe nominations

SAGs went more mainstream with all the streaming nominations.  The GGs obviously aren't ready to get with the program quite yet.  I see a lot of old faces in the tv category.

Great to see Patrick Stewart nominated.  And as much as I love Orange is the New Black, this past season was horrible.  Uzo was the only bright spot with her turn as writer and deserves her nod again.

I honestly don't recognize most of the list.  I must not be enough of a couch potato.  Not that Big Bang deserved to be nominated for last season but as one of the top comedies on tv it's shocking they got nothing.   I think Mayim Bialik should be up for supporting.  And I just don't get why Blue Bloods never even sees a nod.

I am disappointed that Ray Donovan did not get anything nominated. Total snub.

Or Manhattan.

"Joy" is nominted in the comedy/musical category.  Unlike other award shows, the Golden Globes breaks out comedy and drama.  Although, they really push the definition of "comedy" nowadays.

Speaking of which, I never watched OITNB, but I know it was nominated as a drama for the Emmys last year.  Now, it's a comedy again here.  I have seen "Transparent" after Jeffrey Tambor won his awards.  How anyone can consider that a comedy is beyond me.  Episodes of "The Good Wife" and "The Blacklist" have funnier, more lighthearted moments.  Just because a man puts on a dress does not automatically make it a comedy.  And, trust me, I understand satire and dark comedy.  This is NOT either.

Anyways, I also don't recognize many of the nominees.  This is why the ratings have gone down down down, IMO.   If only a small amount of people watch the nominated shows, the larger majority won't care who wins.  And, therefore, won't watch.

Re: Golden Globe nominations

Putting THE MARTIAN in the Comedy category is actually pretty funny!  It is a sci-fi drama in anyone else's mind!  They didn't even have 5 Drama nominees, why they didn't it put it there is crazy.

Re: Golden Globe nominations

Glad to see "Fargo" get some recognition.  I was sure Ted Danson and Jean Smart would be nominated for their roles in the Best Supporting categories.
