I'm a Dietician.
Today, a young patient, very early 20's, asked me, out of the blue, if she could ask for some advice that was not really related to dietary issues, but, kind of waS, because it was causing her so much stress, she wasn't eating well.
She's borderline diabetic and her physician has referred her for nutrional counseling, in the hope they can keep her in line with diet and exercise and avoid medications, at least for the forseeable future.
She's getting married soon and told me that she's been going for religious guidance. Her Pastor has given her a laundry list of "Good Wife" qualities. What threw me, though, was that she told me her Pastor had told her that there are certain "bedroom practices" that she must make clear to her Husband, do not belong in a Christian bedroom, because they are not "Godly" they could not lead to procreation.
I don't think it takes to much imagination to guess what they were. She asked me if I thought her Pastor was going too far, and I was temporarily taken aback.
I told her that I was not a religious counselor, nor did I pretend to be and it would be inappropriate for me to intrude in their discussions. I did say that I would not continue with this Pastor, if he was causing her this much stress, without letting him know how she felt and to bring her future Husband into the discussions, also.
I wanted to say "run run as fast as you can, away from this so called "Pastor".
I'm pretty sure that's her plan; Marital Counseling is one thing, having your spiritual advisor advsing you about what goes on in the marital bed, is way, way, way over the top!
