To the naysayers: if you keep coming up with reasons not to form a new group, then don't complain when this one goes down! We have a nice group of people here who get along pretty well. We don't always agree on the same subject, but it's a lovely group of women and men who share ideas and thoughts in a common place. To those who keep coming up with excuses, and "what if's"......then don't join. But for those of us who want to continue our group, let's do it.

I know it would be easier for posters to use their Q nics but let me tell you one experience I had:

At the DWD site there used to be a public section called Treasure Trove.

You didn't need to join to post there.  You could also post under different nics.

Somebody showed up using "Cakers" and was awful-I took a severe beating here until I had Jez research.  I joined the private "upstairs" and it was no surprise who was impersonating me.  She was able to track the person by IP.

So is there a way to make sure that a Q nic is the real deal?

So @Cakers3 'Jez' was a moderator and able to tell you the real identity of a poster (their legal name) because this person was posting under 'Cakers'?

I kind of have a problem with that.  I don't think anyone should be privy to what another poster's identity is unless some serious or harmful threats are presented.  Maybe I got that part of your post wrong--you getting to a higher level to be privvy to who was posting as Cakers.

We're all under alias names here and other forums such as this.  I could care less (or is it could't care less?) if some one posts under my nic on Proboards, Delphi or the Wall Street Journal---that's on them, not me.

And if and when I do join another board, I'm definitely changing my nic.  I don't feel I have to let people know if it's *me*.  What does it matter?  I see no harm--no foul for picking another name.

And there are posters here, you included, that I feel would make great moderators.  I admit, I could not do it properly.  I'm good at managing people (both adults and children), but not all their opinions.  Lol.

So back to my initial issue.....a moderator can name a fellow poster?  And I don't know what an IP address really is, but I hope it can't be tracked to an actual home address. I don't mind people knowing the general area I live, but I don't want my home address disclosed to anyone.

@Lucky Charm   No. Names were not disclosed.  The IP was not mine and that is how Jez knew the person was a phony Cakers.  Sorry if I was not clear.

Thank you for the confidence but I seriously doubt I would be welcomed as a moderator.

I obviously don't have grand tech skills, but if you need me to pitch in and help with something I'm willing.

This is a productive discussion...  it's a complex process, but it's heartwarming to see the evidence of the powerful connections and friendships we've made.

"Just a shopping chat board,"  was never an accurate or insightful description of what took place here.   Never.   It always was more than that.   We always were more than that.

QVC is a stonecold business and I think this closure of the forums came with the punch of an arctic blast.

Little notice, not even the courtesy of pinning an announcement on the Community pages, coming during the holiday season at a time when a pandemic has affected so many...  a time when consistency and reliability are a precious commodity and when it was comforting to know we could find each other here no matter what.

Regardless of the reasons behind the decision, the manner in which this was done speaks volumes.

I've been praying for a way for us to find a new home.

It won't be easy, quick, or without peril and I can hear in the posts the knowledge and awareness that we have to be careful not to harm or break our close ties in the process of trying to find a way to hold onto and nurture those close ties.
I haven't used the specific platforms being discussed as potential venues or the ones (described in this thread) that historically didn't work well, and I have to be mindful of my health issues, but please give a hollar if anyone thinks I could offer even a modicum of assistance.

For certain, I support you.  Y'all are the best.   Gems, every single one of you.❤️

@dooBdoo  so good to see you. Yesterday I was hoping that you would stop by.  Wanted to page you but I remember reading your Post recently and saw that you were going through a lot so I decided not to.

It seems as if when anything goes wrong I look for you lol.  Thanks again for showing me how to stop all unwanted emails from QVC.

Hope you are doing a lot better and that you will stay with us until the last day, if possible and also that you would Post whenever possible when we get a new home.

@Cakers3

"and it was no surprise who was impersonating me."

I guess this line I took as you found out an actual name of a person.

I'm sure there was no way to track who they were posting as on this site (Q's forums) because we don't know anyone's names here---most of us don't anyways.

I'm not trying to pick this apart, but I do want to be clear that a moderator isn't going to give out any information like that (real name, etc.).
