Re: Go to proboards dot com and start another community

[ Edited ]

I would be happy to volunteer my time to be a moderator.

I promise to be fair.  I do have some experience in this area.  Of course, not everyone is happy when they are advised that they have violated some rules.

We would need some rules in place first which should be decided by the posters, not the moderators.

Just  suggestion....perhaps we can pick a name for the forum too.  Maybe one that does not have QVC's name in the title?

We can be open for suggestions then vote on our favorite.

Thank you @Goldengate8361  and @Effie54 !

I have no desire or need to have any form of control or power over this. So any help would be appreciated.

I saw a need to get something going, and how much this board means to people. If my solution isn't favorable, then that's ok. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I know change is hard, and the pro boards does seem like a comparable board to navigate as this.

But I want to emphasize, I can't do it alone. So, if it seems like a good solution to some of us, then let's have fun getting it going.  (I know it won't work for everyone, but their is no perfect solution).

Edit to add: since I typed this, there have been more offers to help me in this task. THANK YOU! I think pooling our ideas together can lead to something fun!

You're welcome! I think your solution is perfect. So many naysayers are complaining about the boards going down, but then don't want to help in bringing in a new forum for us to get together. That certainly isn't going to solve anything! I'm in, and I'll do my best to help. I like your idea, and I think it's the best one yet.

ProBoards really to me sounds like our Best option to move for us!!

This sounds like a viable option but what would moderation look like?

I think that is a very important thing to many going forward.

@JJsMom   Whoever sets up on ProBoards can assign moderators from the group.

However, that turned into a disaster on another site, which will not be named.

It turned out if you disagreed with the political slant you were banned.  Some of the nicest posters here were booted.

I left because of a certain person.  Not worth getting into.  I just considered the source.

Exactly. There's the issue of people forming cliques and moderating unevenly, or the political agenda. I have zero interest in other boards moderated by posters here (no offense Smiley LOL).

@JJsMom   I think there is a poster here that would be a fair moderator and do a good job.

No one poster could take on the job of moderation, certainly not without compensation.

Re: Go to proboards dot com and start another community

I'm not really too worried about moderators.  I've seen boards where users are moderating different groups and as long as rules are posted, I hope people can follow them.  Warnings can always go out if someone oversteps the boundaries.  Often that takes care of it.  Of course, some posters get banned, but that is probably for repeated infractions.  From what I've seen, some mods will remind an errant user with a reposting of the rules and a warning.  Most would take heed.

Re: Go to proboards dot com and start another community

While I did register at pro board, it can take up to a week to get approval. In the meantime,  for anyone that expressed interest in helping, I don't know the best method for moving forward with communication for collaborating. I made an email at qvcrefugee at yahoo. Feel free to drop me an email, I feel we can do this together.

As I said, I cannot/will not be able to do it alone.  So for those that are looking for an effective way to keep some of our discussions going, let's pull our wonderful brains and thoughts together! There's no reason why we can't keep our cyber community going.

Re: Go to proboards dot com and start another community

I know it would be easier for posters to use their Q nics but let me tell you one experience I had:

At the DWD site there used to be a public section called Treasure Trove.

You didn't need to join to post there.  You could also post under different nics.

Somebody showed up using "Cakers" and was awful-I took a severe beating here until I had Jez research.  I joined the private "upstairs" and it was no surprise who was impersonating me.  She was able to track the person by IP.

So is there a way to make sure that a Q nic is the real deal?

Re: Go to proboards dot com and start another community

I'm hoping this will work.  Thank you to those willing to put in the work.  I signed up for Wisteria Lane and am not at all happy with the way it's set up and how it looks.  Maybe it's me, but it doesn't seem very user friendly or organized. I doubt I'll stick with it.
