It's an Osprey nest in Charlotte Harbor, Florida.

The bobcat killed the mama Osprey!

Re: Glimpse of Rare Bobcat Bird

I have just started watching the eagles this past spring and find their nests amazing.  The decorah eagles in Iowa lost their nest when the branch came down on the dead tree they had it on. People there help the eagles by building the nest and setting up cameras hoping they claim it.

If you go on facebook and type in Raptor Resource Project the first entry will show you how they rebuilt the nest for these 2 eagles.  It is really amazing all the work they put into it to get them started.

I heard a partial discussion the other day on NPR.  The Bald Eagles, Shadow and Jackie, who've been nesting each year have been on video cams in the Big Bear area in CA.

Last year they had an egg (or eggs) that didn't hatch and it was upsetting to see them hold out hope for their nest, refusing to leave, long after the egg(s) should have hatched.

They finally left ... no baby.

Anyway, there have been recent sightings of the two eagles stopping by that same nest and they may be sprucing it up for the next try.

How sad for any Momma Bird to lay eggs that don't ever hatch .. how do you leave that nest and move on?

Or maybe the Bobcat is stealing eggs.

My husband has three bobcat mounts in the den.

we have had an eagle nest in the woods right across the street from our house and it is huge you can't miss it !   Eagles fly around all the time so,I'm sure there are others as we are surrounded by thick woods .  We just can't see them all .  Love to see them with there massive wing span they make  a screaming  sound.

@Kitty Galore.  Of course it's a joke.  Some lucky person manage to grab a shot of the cat investigating an abandoned eagle nest.

Re: Glimpse of Rare Bobcat Bird

  • Description

Florida has gone viral on social media again. A picture of a bobcat sitting in an osprey nest has been shared more than 6,000 times.

The photo, taken by a boat captain on the gulf coast, was taken nearly 8 years ago.  But recently, a friend shared it to Facebook and off it went.

The captain vividly remembers taking the photo. Shortly after capturing the image of the large bobcat, adult ospreys returned to the nest and chased the bobcat out. The birds of prey were swooping and the bobcat was swatting, as it scurried down the tree backward.

@Tinkrbl44   I know I feel sad for the mommy bird.   We sometimes have cardinals in our red maple with a nest and nit all the eggs hatch we just leave them we don't want to touch them as we don't know how long or if they ever will .  Eventually the 2 cardinal parents ,  as cardinals take care of the eggs and babies together leave .
