I stopped going to the movies when actors decided to mock what I believe.  They have the right to express their opinion and I have the right to spend my money elsewhere.

I didn't see The Wife but I'm hoping if she wins an Academy Award for the role, it will come back to theaters.  I was lucky enough to see Glenn Close twice on Broadway, in a Delicate Balance and Sunset Boulevard.  I think she's one of the best actors of our time.

I usually don't watch award shows anymore though.

Re: Glenn Close

[ Edited ]

I agree that Ms Close's performance is certainly Oscar worthy. Since she has already received several awards for her performance, I hope she gets "the big one". As I stated in my review on the thread about The Wife, I was underwhelmed by the script and the rest of the cast especially "the husband". That's why it came as no surprise that nothing/no one else received a nomination.

I have a long standing admiration for Ms. Close and her work, going back to "The Natural", "The Big Chill" and  "The World According to Garp".  She is one of the few Hollywood "celebrities" for whom I still have a reasonable amount of respect.

The Wife! Most beautiful film and story told intelligently and beautifully acted too. I absolutely loved this movie. I have seen nine movies in the last two weeks. Many of these nominated for Academy Awards. The Wife is my favorite. With its many layers to peel back, it kept me enthralled from the very beginning. As the truth is is slowly revealed, we grow to understand what has actually been going on the entire time. Relationships are complicated. Times were different for many women decades before now. Glenn Close elevates the material. Deserves to win.
