Re: Glad the Forum is Up and Running again ...but

@San Antonio Gal

The warning that came up was the one I usually see if a site is "risky" asking me if I am sure I want to continue. It did not have me click on any link or do anything, looked like my normal McAfee warning. So...I left, and probably won't go back.

I learned in the week that I was locked out of these forums that I did miss the information and comraderie, the smiling at certain posters, and posting my own comments and questions. I'm so glad it is back and hope it stays. I know I'm staying.

But....I did find other sources, other things to do in my coffee breaks, got more accomplished without the distraction of the forums. We shall see how it all plays out.

What? I can actually login and post ... Shocking. I was convinced that was a passive aggressive way to close down these boards!  Well I'm happy. I am using the Proboards too, but I am mentally attached to this forum- I have posted here for 15 years, maybe longer... ! Yay!! Thx Q!! 💝😁👍🏼

Are you sure you have McAfee@author?  Most of us who actually have McAfee were not getting any virus warning.

You can google this problem and find that it is either an app that has accidentally been downloaded, or on your browser.  If you reset your browser to "default settings" it should make it go away.

There are tutorials on Youtube about it.  Its not an actual virus causing this.

Yes, I certainly do have McAfee and scan, shred, update definitions regularly.  In fact I'll run an extra scan tonight because of that warning.

Hmm.  Just thought I'd check with you.  McAfee isn't flagging me with a virus alert on Pro Boards. In fact, it has never alerted me to a virus in that manner.  Sorry that happened to you.

[ Edited ]

Excerpt From:  mcafee.com/blogs/other-blogs/mcafee-labs/how-to-stop-the-popups/

McAfee is tracking an increase in the use of deceptive popups that mislead some users into taking action, while annoying many others.  A significant portion is attributed to browser-based push notifications, and while there are a couple of simple steps users can take to prevent and remediate the situation, there is also some confusion about how these should be handled.

How does this happen?

In many cases scammers use deception to trick users into Allowing push notifications to be delivered to their system.

In other cases, there is no deception involved.  Users willingly opt-in uncoerced.

What happens next?

After Allowing notifications, messages quickly start being received.  Some sites send notifications as often as every minute.

Many messages are deceptive in nature.  Consider this fake alert example.  Clicking the message leads to an imposter Windows Defender alert website, complete with MP3 audio and a phone number to call.

See remainder of article.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

When we call to report this, I added that until I could check in, I also couldn't order from them.  It's like, HELLO!!!!!

@Marp , I am one getting the fake McAfee notices.  I do not have McAfee.  I never, ever allow any notifications.  I always block them so that isn't my problem.

Exactly. But as far as I know there has been no apology or explanation why this happened. Inquiring minds want to know!

They had some kind of huge sale (not really) so I guess that's where all their time and effort went-into that. It was nothing special but they didn't have ANY problem at all with that end of QVC. Sales pages were working just fine. I wouldn't buy a thing but I checked to see if they were working.
