Re: Giving info to relative doing a "family tree"

You know whatever information you give this person will end up on the internet eventually, on family trees and related websites.  Give him/her your own personal information if you wish, but don't give out that for other family members.   It should be their choice to disclose, not yours.

As for deceased family members, I don't see a problem with giving out their dates,

There are groups of people that create "family trees" for a surname as a hobby or business.  Not family members.  Their info is already on the internet.

Information on the internet is not always correct!

Doesn't matter who or what you tell, or what!   It gets posted anyway!  Check my name and it says that I live with 3 men...one that is not even a living person or ever was and one that my husband bought a house from 10 years before we were married.  Go figure!

I don't mind sharing .... after all they are their relatives too.

I'm happy when I get a request from a "new" cousin!

I agree.  I was so surprised that people would not share family information.  It seems so self centered to me. Sad,  I can't think of any other words.
